10 years since my last car purchase ...... nothing has changed!
« on: September 19, 2011, 01:32:04 pm »
I finally pulled the trigger on a new (new to me) ride from a local Acura dealer.

'07 TL in nice shape, straight car.

Coming out of an economy car ('01 Sentra SE) and dealing with a "luxury" brand,
you'd think the buying experience would be decent ......... what a huge let down.

I am appalled at the lack of professional sales ability, the standard bullsh*t tactics
played by the dealer, the lack of responsibility given to the sales staff and business
manager (they had to make two separate phone calls to the sales manager who had
left early    1) to allow a free oil change for the deal     2) to waive charges for a
tire and rim warranty I didn't want (sheesh)).

As far as I am concerned, the only thing the salesperson did to earn his commission
was put the license plates on the car (and he even screwed that up by stripping a
couple of the threads).  I have the dealer ID plate frames off the car and am trying
to formulate a constructive recap of the sale, but I am probably wasting my time to
help.     Oh, it's a Leggat (family) operation, which may have something to do with
the neanderthal process.  Will not be recommending this operation to anyone.

That's unfortunate. But how are they going to get the message to change if people keep buying from them despite the antics? Or did you not buy your TL from these guys?

If it's the Leggat Acura on Brant I'm Burlington, then I would say they haven't changed since 2004.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

....... forgot to say that I had to ask to drive the (used) car before signing, because the salesperson
was more than happy to get the deal done without that step......

Assuming it's been like this since 2004, imagine how much more business the store would have gotten
with a little better customer service ...... I still have a problem trying to forget the size of the gold
watch the used car manager wore on his wrist ....... can you say stereotype?

What a shame.  I too bought a used 2007 Acura (TL Type S) and my experience was totally different to yours.  It was all done with professionalism and courtesy.  But then I had bought from them before (a new 2002 TL-S) and I bought from the general manager (who was a salesman at my first dealings).

He flipped me the keys so I could take it home overnight to show Mrs Wheelboy as we live an hour away.

Acura West, London Ontario.

Exactly.  If you are unhappy with the process, leave and do not come back.  Tell them why too, but don't be an arse about it, just speak to how you don't like the process.

If we don't do this, it won't change.

I'd bet you I'd be driving a 2011 Forester today if it weren't for all that BS.  I can't imagine myself wanting any product badly enough to suffer through all the garbage my Subaru dealer wants to heap on customers.

My wife bought her 2009 Corolla new, and it was thanks to an awesome buying experience.  Guess what?  My Dad bought a Corolla, my friend bought a Highlander Hybrid, another buddy bought a Taco and yet another a Tundra.  Word about a great sales experience can travel as fast as about a poor one...
No place I'd rather be...
