Anyone Else Getting Excited at the WRC Ramp Up?
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:50:37 pm »
In the 1990's I was a huge WRC fan.  It is what got me into Subaru as a teenager.  I love watching it in those glory days with Mitsubishi, Subaru, Ford, Toyota and Peugeot (later on) battling it out.  It was so competitive and great to watch.

In the 2000's the series really died off with Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota and Peugeot all leaving the sport.  For a few years now it has really just been Ford and Citroen running around.

But now with the new regulations that include restricting engines to 1.6L, it appears manufacturers are ready to return.  Mini is already set to come into the series and now VW just released their official Polo R WRC that will also see battle in WRC.  Rumour has it Skoda will use a version of the Polo Chassis and also enter.

A big reason many think Subaru is 'shrinking' the next WRX/STI and giving it a 1.6L Boxer motor is to also return to WRC.

Ford, Subaru, VW, Mini, Citroen and Skoda battling it out at the same time would be awesome.  Also, a bunch of 1.6L 300HP engines could also find their way into various products.

When it dropped off TV networks it became harder to keep up.  Is it being covered on NA television?

Not really, SPEED will show bits hear and there.  I hope with several manufacturers in the sport, it will be covered again, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I used to love watching it.  Late 90's and early 2000's Speed had some pretty decent (and regular) coverage.  Once it disappeared from there I kinda lost interest too.  Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

I still follow the WRC on a regular basis. The points for the driver's Championship tightens up with only 3 races to go.

Would be very intersting if Loeb signs with another team, he is the face of the WRC in the last few years.
