My friend's 2001 Corolla CE (auto) 252 kms (80km on the engine), occasionally stalls after he starts his car up. He drives a few metres (ie. out of the driveway), then the car dies on him, then the battery and oil warning lights come up. He then restarts the car, then it is okay again.
It has happened twice in the same month. We checked his battery and connection after the first time, and everything was fine (full charge, clean and fully connected).
Any ideas on what is wrong? With winter coming up, he doesn't want to be left stranded when it is -30C out. He doesn't want to put much money into it, and would rather buy a new car if the repair is over $500.
