Diesel Truck in Canada
« on: September 06, 2011, 10:18:07 am »
Hey, All

Yesterday my buddy came to me for some suggestion on replacing his Honda Ridgeline. He likes that truck as the practicability for his retail business but it doesnot make alot of sense now as the gas price keeps going up.

The first thing came to my mind was getting a diesel truck. However I am not sure what kind of diesel powered trucks available in Canada? So I am here.

Please let me know any suggestion for new one, used ones.

Thanks,
/S

Look at a 10gs more to a diesel, if he not towing a lot of weight get a gas model

I think F-150 may have the best deals  this month, last month it was GM

So your buddy likes his Ridgeline but wants something better on fuel? Forget diesel trucks. They are only available in the largest trucks available and have huge diesel engines, over 6 liters. If your buddy needs to tow 15,000 lb loads they might make sense.

Diesel pickup trucks in Canada are typically heavy duty trucks meant for towing large loads for construction, farming, serious work, etc.    There are no small diesel trucks like you see in other parts of the world.

The best you can do is a 6-cyl or 4-cyl gasoline.    Probably won't find a truck out there much better than the Ridgeline for fuel economy, unless you go 4-cylinder (i.e Ford Ranger).  But that truck does not compare to a Ridgeline for passengers, comfort, etc..

You can get light duty diesel SUVs (vw, merc, jeep).

If your friend is not moving very tall objects with the Ridgeline and is not moving to many people a Ford Transit Connect is likely the only vehicle which would move much but offer better mileage. http://www.ford.ca/app/en/fo/vehicle/transit_connect.html

Nothing else is likely to not return enough improved mileage to justify the cost of purchasing it. Certainly if fuel costs are the reason to want a change then the available diesel trucks here would make no sense.  The diesels available in trucks are all aimed for heavy hauling jobs and are expensive very powerful engines.

Forget the massive diesel trucks...keep the Ridgeline or get a 4cyl Tacoma/Frontier.

All the big diesels will use just as much diesel as the Ridgeline. Go with a 4 cylinder Taco or Frontier.

I've driven it.  Slow, but it works.

Wow that's pretty good - I don't think Ridgelines burn much diesel!  ;D

That's right - they won't burn much diesel because the fuel system will shut down in a short period of time.  :rofl2:
