A two wheeled world of incompetents?
« on: August 27, 2011, 05:57:15 pm »
I don't often ride in the city, but today I went for a ride through town, out of town, and back through.  Given the 27-28C sunny day, lots of bikers out today.

Some things I noticed:

1. Wobbly riders.  When I pull to a stop, I plant my foot solidly, timing it with a smooth stop.  When I pull away, my feet are on the pegs immediately.  I noticed today that most guys I saw wobble to a stop, and walk their bike as they pull away. They lack low speed control and are all over the lane as they stop or pull away.

2. Riding on the center line.  What the hell?  I don't ride in the center of the lane, but I have noticed a lot of bikers riding the dotted line, either lanes in the same direction, or nearly into opposing traffic.  Sheesh, where did they learn that terrible habit?

3. Can't maintain a speed.  I was behind a guy on a Victory bike, out of town, so the limit was 100.  He would ride at 110 and slowly drop down to 90 or so, then speed back up to 110, and on and on like this.  Finally, I wicked by him.  I passed in a clear passing zone, and for some reason, he flipped me off as I went by.  Huh?  Not allowed to pass?  Just before coming off the highway back into town, I came up on a group of six out together.  Man, these morons were all over the map with their speeds, and a couple of times I was sure they were going to pile up.  A quick flick of the wrist and I was glad to be far from them.
No place I'd rather be...

Huh?  Not allowed to pass?

Nope...didn't you know that.  ;) The road is their's.

I love coming up on the thirty cruiser riders all riding so close to each other, you can't get by. And when you do break up their formation, they get pi$$ed. Cripes, if these guys were real riders, they'd go off and tour somewhere on their own.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

Haha, yes, the "formation" riders really are pathetic. Talk about a desperate cry for belonging.

In the old days, riding my RD350, I loved strafing cruisers and leave them in a haze of blue, 2 stroke smoke!  :rofl2:

Thought I'd bring this thread back to life to complain about a small "formation" I encountered the other day. Heading east on Hwy 7 near Perth, three guys on bikes spread themselves out just enough that passing them all at once would be risky on that narrow, hilly, winding road, but they didn't leave enough space between them to allow anyone to pass them one at a time. Cruising just below the speed limit and admiring the fall colours, they ended up with 20 or more frustratred car and truck drivers stacked up behind them. Bike guys: either bunch up, spread out, speed up, or pull over. And check your mirror once in a while.

They were probably riding Harleys and going as fast as they could.
