Steve:

I decided that the best bet now is to go to court myself, hopefully get it down to 10 over and no points and again hope for the best with insurance. This is what I'll do. The other trick is too much for me (I've heard of it).

As I mentioned before, my insurance for one of the cars just went up 15% from 6 months ago with 11+ years of whistle clean driving record. I'm not under 25 either and I don't drive expensive/sport cars and they are only getting older.

Although it's lot of money, it doesn't significantly affect my monthly budget, but I'd rather spend that money on something else (I'm up to $450/month now with 2 cars and the house). The other thing that bothers me is that it has been going up every 3 month in the past 2 years or so every time an insurance renewal comes along (the renewal for the 2 cars and the house are about 3 months apart of each other).

The insurance companies are the ones putting pressure on the courts not the people desperately trying to protect themselves from these thugs, but that's a different story (rant).

Wowzers car crazy, that is a LOT per month.  I'm sure insurance is more expensive in Toronto than the Maritimes, but damn!

One piece of advice that I haven't seen yet in this thread.
RUN AWAY from State Farm.

I think I'm at the boiling point with them too. 4 years ago they gave me the best rates but the last 2 years they went crazy. I shopped around 6 months ago, but through Kanetix I got even worst (this is why I'm still with them).
It's time to call a broker.

Yeah, I would definitely say should.  I am with The Personal and they've been extremely good.  Just to give you an idea, I pay $213/mo for 3 vehicles and two properties.  Like I mentioned earlier, I am sure insurance is a fair bit more expensive in Toronto, but I still think you could do much better with another company.  Good luck with everything.

When I lived in NB, I dealt with an independent insurance broker. Everytime a policy was up for renewal, they'd shop around for me. My rates stayed the same for years while most of the people I knew complained about 5-10% annual increases in premiums.

With SGI, my rates decrease a bit for every claims free year, up to a maximum discount of 20% IIRC. They are tough on sportbikes though, $500 for 6 months for a 600cc.

I haven't been able to find anyone cheaper than State Farm..at least for us.  4 cars (full coverage), our house and a $1 million liability umbrella policy.  All cars have extra income replacement insurance on them.  Just under $400/month.

FWIW: Alumni from Canadian universities sometimes have access to group rate plans.  When I looked into it I literally saved thousands a year.  My house insurance alone dropped in half for better coverage.  Contact the alumni office of your alma mater for more info.

Wow, Three cars and a house $4k/ year for me. But I have received two "go find another insurance prover" letters in the last four years due to tickets  :)

Windsor/Essex County has some of the lower rates in the province.

No kidding. My home insurance alone is over $400.

Sorry...my post was supposed to read $400/MONTH not $400 per year...

Am I reading this right Ron?  Your insurance for 4 vehicles and your house is less than $400 a YEAR?   :fall:

Edit: just saw your response.   :)

Totally excused!

I had just paid the annual house insurance, which was $722. Car runs somewhere around $1k/yr and the bike $500 for 6 months. And I'm in the socialist paradise!

I just got an online quote from TD for my 2005 Mazda5 GT.
2774/year or 231/month. State Farm looks like bargain now.

Yea, man.  That's what I'm finding too.  I've tried quotes from all the online places and no one comes close to my State Farm prices...

First Ontario political party that indicates that they will move to a semi public car insurance system will win the election.  Even the politically stupid ppl are fed up.

We tried that once before with the NDP...and they got elected..then lied...and that was the end of a new insurance scheme in Ontario.  Oh..that's if you don't count No Fault and higher rates which came after the whole NDP insurance debacle...
