2013 Subaru BRZ
« on: August 23, 2011, 12:32:59 pm »
Well, Subaru has finally given a name to the Scion FR-S twin that begins production this spring.  B=Boxer R=Rear Wheel Drive Z=Zenith (I think of tv's here).  Anyway, Frankfurt will show yet another concept car and then Tokyo in December will get the actual production car.

I wonder how it will price compared to the Scion?

much more interested in Subie's version of this car...wonder why they're being so secretive when Toyota has been the complete opposite.

I also read that yesterday. Facts like that make this car automatically go on the radar.

If that's it - plus the Subaru version has 300BHP (or close to it) it'll be amazing and insanely tempting. In some ways it's like an improved RX-8.

As much as I'd like this car to have 300 hp, I'm skeptical until the official announcement.

I read somewhere that the original quote was something like " less than 300 hp" and someone pointed out it could be anything between 1-299 hp.

But it'd be awesome if it were 300 hp from a n.a. engine.

I just read a first drive review in the Dec. Car and Driver. They indicated that the estimated engine ratings were 210hp@6500rpm and 170 lb-ft@4000rpm. Perhaps a turbo charged version will follow on later.

- They mentioned that the 2.0L NA boxer uses Toyota's D4S dual port and direct injection technology.
- Compared to the Impreza, the engine sits 4.7 inches lower and 9.4 inches closer to the car centre.
- 2 Aisin sourced 6 speed tranmissions, 1 manual and 1 conventional auto with manual shifting capabilities.
- Estimate curb weight of 2800-2900lbs.
- Centre of gravity 1 inch lower than a Cayman.

The review sounds very promising. :)

Not the same.  Modellista is Toyota's in-house tuning arm.  Ground effects and all Modellista.

Yeah, I was also pretty skeptical when I heard those rumors. Still 2800-2900lbs isn't too bad for these days... should be a light lively feeling car.
