New Vehicle Time
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:24:59 am »
Well, I'm leaving my current job which means I'm losing the company vehicle. So it means its time for a new car and I'm down to four vehicles.

1. 2011 Ford Ranger Supercab 4 cylinder 5 speed. Brand new, tax in/on the road for about 15 grand. No jump seats (deleted in the 4 bangers) but thats fine, the dog's the only one back there anyway.

2. 2010 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab 2wd WT. Base model with A/C and the auto locking rear diff (G80). I took it in as a trade from an older gentleman who drove it only in the summers and only has about 15,000km on it. Downside is it's automatic. Back seat is a bit bigger than the Ranger. Cost should be around 14,000 on the road.

3. 2008 Ford Ranger 4x4 V6. Decently optioned, havn't seen it but likely in really good condition. Comes with a cap and its a 5 speed with 80,000km. Plus side is the current owner wants to take my Golf on a partial trade so it would come in less then the 10,400 asking price.

4. 2008 Jeep Wrangler Base X 6 speed. This is the odd ball of the group, I'd have to get a hitch installed. I don't really need a pickup as Kim's dad has a full size ram and my dad owns a Ranger as it is. Should be priced around 14-15,000 and has ~60,000km on it. I've always lusted after a Jeep though, and love the ruggedness, plus I love the divability of the new ones.

I did just buy a new house so there may be some stuff to haul around but it'll likely be a minimum once we're really moved in. Being able to transport the bike would be nice and would require a hitch + trailer for the Wrangler. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Since you just bought a new house I would lean toward the 2011 Ranger or 2010 Colorado.  The warranty is a great help when having a recently purchased house. (although it sounds like you don't need to worry about it too much working at a dealership  ;D)

I'd take the ranger personally to have the 5-speed

If you don't care about extras, and the power is sufficient, I would say the base 2011 Ranger will be your best bet. Stripped down rugged vehicle without all the extras, it's simple with less to go wrong. That's my thought.

Enjoying the Alberta advantage

Definitely the base Ranger. If I didn't have a child, I'd get one myself. Awesome little trucks.
