CBB shows $5800-$7450 for the vehicle. It sounds like I'm better of selling private.
Even if I get top trade-in $$$ ($7000-$7500) and the tax savings on the new car it's still on the lower side of the median retail range ($8000-$9000).

You need to remember that that 5800 low number is right NOW. That car (regardless of how nice and it sounds like yours is a good one no rust and well kept) is still a 6 model year old car. Next year it will be a 7 model year old car.

This is just an example but http://novascotia.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-2005-Mazda3-GT-Sedan-W0QQAdIdZ303823594 is an 05 GT with Auto and only 93 K and they are Asking 7,000 ..add another year and 30K on and what will it realistically sell for? 5 or 6 k?

I agree that the Costco tires are the best bet. I know for me it would make a difference if I was looking at a used car and it had tires on it that I would plan on using for 2-3 years  that one car had Bridgetones vs some no name tire made in China.

Certainly the dealers low ball the trade-in value for the above reasons. They are in the business of making money like everyone else.
It all comes down if its worth to trade-in or put up with the hassle to sell private. You need to do your due dilligence. I'm sure most people don't.

The same goes when you buy a car. I for one, I always offer $500 over the CCC wholesale price and ask every dealer around if they accept the offer until one does. I don't care where I buy the car from as long as I get the price I want for the car I want.
The dealers do the same when the they offer the trade-in price. If it works out for you, it's fine, if not, move on and sell private.

Autotrader Ontario, the asking range is 8000-9000K (2005 with 100K-125K km) excluding few outliers on both sides.
For 2004 MY most are in the $7000-$8000 range, again with 100K-125K.

Check picture #7 of that car.  ;D

Those prices are purchase prices right? As noted by others, if the dealer wants to make $2K on the sale plus reconditioning that makes a $7K deal into a $4K trade-in. I'm not trying to be negative here, I was shocked when the dealer told me my 2003 Protege5 was worth $2500 on trade, and that was 2 years ago and the car was in far better shape with little rust (then). Unfortunately cars don't hold the value we want them to.

Yes. Those are asking prices.
You are not negative. I know this is the reality. I'm just trying to figure out how much I can expect on a trade-in from our dealer members here and I already got the answer. I got good advice (confirmation) on the tires dilema too.
