Quebec's highway safety code prohibits riding a bicycle while wearing a personal stereo headset or earphones. It's the only Canadian jurisdiction where it's illegal to ride while listening to headphones.
There were four bike-related deaths in the Montreal area last year, but police said none of them was related to cyclists wearing headphones while riding.
I just heard that its illegal to wear earbuds/headphones while cycling in Quebec.http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2011/07/13/montreal-bike-earphones-713.htmlQuoteQuebec's highway safety code prohibits riding a bicycle while wearing a personal stereo headset or earphones. Mine don't block out much (if any) outside noise and I can easily hear around me. I also keep the volume turned down low and probably couldn't name any song I just heard.
If its illegal in a car that operates on the same roads it should be the illegal for a cyclist.

That was one of the questions I got wrong on the driving test that was posted the other day.The question was what was illegal in a car - I said headphones - but the correct answer was passengers watching t.v. as if that's somehow different that watching a dvd. You can't use logic when answering these questions.I say neither cars nor cyclist and they should turn down that crappy music and close their windows. Second hand music noise is annoying and distracting. So maybe earphones should be mandatory?

Avoiding earbuds, etc sounds like a pretty good precaution just for self-preservation. Who cares what the law is for cars? As cyclists well know, the price to pay for a accident is much more severe than for most car drivers.
We get lawed to death .
Now, what if you were deaf but also a biker? Could you then wear headphones while cycling?
Ear canal headphones can block out all other sound but I would think regular ear buds would be fine . We get lawed to death .
