For 2012, the Fit Sport also gains steering-wheel-mounted audio controls as a standard feature and upgraded seat fabric. When equipped with navigation, it also includes hands-free Bluetooth.

Both of these are "about time" features, imo. I bought my Fit new in 2009 and have wondered since why it doesn't have steering wheel audio controls (it has the exact same steering wheel as the Civic, which offers controls, and the wheel is already wired for cruise control). Same goes for Bluetooth.

Of course, in Canada we still won't get BT, since the Sport up here doesn't include SatNav. :/

Aug 16th - more pictures and more info on this site

http://ca.autoblog.com/2011/08/16/honda-details-updates-to-2012-fit-hatchback/

I don't like the look of those new rims on the Fit.  Just my opinion, but they don't look as sharp in my eyes as the previous set did.  Still no sunroof or heated seats available for the Fit, huh?  I guess Honda thinks this is an entry-level car, and not worth those bells and whistles.  I don't know why - those items should be pure profit-generators (if included as options) for the manufacturer.
I love the packaging efficiency of the Fit, and it drove great during a test drive in the city (didn't get to take it onto the highway though), but the new subcompacts are catching up fast.  I'm really interested in a comparo with the Fit, Fiesta, Mazda2, Sonic, and Accent/Rio. Hopefully the autos.ca staff will get a chance to do such a test, given the popularity of small cars here in Canada. Or maybe someone on the board can do an informal test and post their opinions?

just checked their website (Nov 27) and still no info on the 2012 model.  Probably delayed due to all the various production problems and the fact its built in Japan.

Here you go:

6. Versa
5. Rio SX
4. Accent
3. Yaris
2. Sonic
1. Fit

Would have been nice to see Fiesta and Mazda 2 in the mix, but the Fit has already triumphed over those two in a C/D comparo.

If that's true, the Fit is off my list.

Which makes absolutely NO sense at all .... When is Honda finally going to truly understand whats important for this market.

Maybe when Canada becomes a strong Top 10 car market?

More the point. Why make different cars for the two parts of the NA market. Why not just sell the same car and perhaps charge a bit more for here.  It IS justifiable to charge more for cars here with the small market... for an off shore manufacturer. Not so sure for a domestic.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It boggles my mind that SatNav isn't even an option. I don't mind so much if the trims/packages are different, but why offer something standard in one market and not at all in a country that shares a border?  ???

the Japanese automaker Honda is crossing the threshold by importing subcompact cars into Canada from one of its plants in China. This month, Honda Canada began receiving its smallest model, the Fit, from China instead of Japan, as part of a strategy to produce more vehicles outside its home country.

The decision allows Honda to eke out higher profit in a segment of the auto market where margins are extremely thin, especially since the high value of the yen cuts into all Japanese automakers’ overseas operations.

“The yen has been getting stronger and stronger,” Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada, said on Tuesday.

Of course, Honda has yet to bring a Chinese-made Fit to the US, where antipathy towards Chinese products is greater and automotive diversity is lesser than in the Great White North. Also, the importation of Chinese Fits is seen as a temporary response to the high Yen, while Honda builds a new plant in Mexico for Fit production, scheduled to open in 2014. Still, this is a significant development, presaging the inevitable importation to the US of Chinese-built vehicles.
