Bloody awful
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:36:11 pm »
Getting quite tired of the TSX right now. Its just so bloody slow. Yet I can't comfortably get out of it because of various timing problems

1. Wife soon will be away for ~6 months on a training excursion something or other in the US. Needs a car. Would be dumb to take the BMW.
2. Wife in about 18-24 months will, in all likelihood, be getting a company car. Would be dumb to get rid of the BMW to make space, so the TSX has a due date here.
3. Its had a crash so a bit tougher to sell.
4. Supercharger kit is expensive and demolishes the resale even more.
5. Its been a bad year at work so shiny new toys are a bit of a faux-pas.
6. My brother failed to get his :censor: together and isn't quite ready for a car yet (he is the backup offloading option).

I wish there weren't so many regulations and taxes on car transactions. If the market were more fluid I'd be driving something different every year.

That`s a tough one.

Aside from simply toughing it out, it sounds like the supercharger is the best option. Of course, it also might just turn your nice-handling-but-slow car in to an unpleasantly-evil-torque-steering-but-fast car.  :-\

Or you could sell the TSX and take over an 18-24 month lease on a Cayman S. Just park it 5 blocks from work so nobody will see it, and tell them you took the subway.  :)

Horrible, of horribles.  You have to drive a TSX boohoo.  How much you selling it for?  I'll trade you a Yaris LOL

There are times I wished for a slower car. Can't actually drive mine hard for more than a couple of seconds at a time. Fast cars are just not that much fun in 2011 Toronto. Especially with a cop with a laser gun at near enough every corner.

I know for a fact that my Corolla is slower :)

It sounds like there is end in sight for you. Two years time really isn't that bad. I wouldn't mind a different car than the one I have to be honest but there's no way in the next 4-5 years will I be able to afford a car again. Not unless the economy picks up and I get a much better paying job.

Plus two years means plenty of new product announcements and new cars to track down.

Sell the TSX, get a used E39 M5 from one of the sunny states. Things are tough, you had to downgrade to an older car ;)

I believe mm is a Number One Son so he is, of course, entitled.  And so he should be.  I, as an old fart, would HATE to have a previously crashed slow TSX and a BMW that has suspicious noises.    ;) ;D

I'd stay the course.  Keep the TSX until your wife has a company car sitting in the driveway, then decide what to do with it.

Turbo or supercharge the 4 banger.  Remove before selling.

Do not have the expertise to install. Not sure where to find a qualified installer who won't rip me off.

mmret, yes our TSX's are bloody slow!   ;D

Do not supercharge it!  You need to keep up the re-sale value.  You are GOING to change it for another car, don't reduce your potential market even further.

Okay, how much was the accident?  Any structural damage?  I sold my Camry easily, surprisingly.  I was upfront about the damage, had the Lexus bodyshop paperwork that showed everything.  Had the Manger of the bodyshop confirm no engine or structural damage.  Priced my car accordingly.  Also had all my receipts for everything.  Bye-bye it went.

Close to $10k of damage. But with a headlight costing $700, a hood $600, and a bumper $700, things can add up fast. Heck the bloody fog lamp was $250. Throw on $6k of labour and $1k of paint and voila. I have all receipts and documentation for the repair and for pretty much every oil change etc. since new. No engine/structural damage.
