Civic cooling fan
« on: August 14, 2011, 01:48:00 am »
2003 Civic

I just noticed the rad cooling fans running continously everytime I cold start the engine. They stop when I shut off the engine. Yes, the AC is off. I checked.  It makes no difference if the AC is on or off.  Start car cold rad fans on. Kill engine cooling rad fans off.  I think this is kind of strange because why would the fans run when the engine is cold?  Any advice before I take the whole thing apart?

Thank you.

Temperature sensor--radiator fan switch is supposed to close at over 90 deg Celsius.   There is also a radiator fan relay connected to the radiator fan motor to check if it is not stuck.

DUH @ myself. The AC works when the mode selector is on defrost and floor setting. I thought it only works when the mode selector is on the defrost setting. It would help if the AC light went on as well like in my Toyota.
I depressed the Recirc and AC button, started the engine and held both down for seven seconds until the light on the Recirc stops flashing and the AC button light comes on. This prevents the AC from automatically running when the mode selector is on defrost and floor.  However, when I switch the mode selector switch to a different setting the AC comes on and has to be manually turned off. If you are wondering why I am concerned about the AC being on is because I do not want the condensor fans running on cold winter days.

Pretty much anything colder then -10 and the compressor won't kick on, so neither will the fans.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage
