Congrats Snowy.   Nice ride.   Do you plan to stick on snow tires?

The Venza AWD system is the same as the one used in the RAV-4.  I was a little surprised that they didn't use the Highlander system, which is a full time AWD unit.

For those that might wonder:

RAV4/Venza - FWD with slip/grip engagement of rear wheels
Highlander/Sienna - 50:50 AWD with front/rear distribution based on slippage
Highlander Hybrid - FWD with slip/grip engagement using a rear mounted electric motor

There has been much consternation over the Venza's interior, and the criticism must come from folks that haven't been in one.  It would be at home in a Lexus showroom.

If the Venza had a small, occasional-use third row, we would have bought one on the spot.  Superb package.
For some unknown reason I thought the system had changed in the second gen Highlander away from the 50:50 AWD system used in the first gen. Glad to hear that this was not the case. Too bad they didn't carry it over to the Venza too. Perhaps the slip/grip arrangement would be slightly better from a fuel economy perspective.

For some unknown reason I thought the system had changed in the second gen Highlander away from the 50:50 AWD system used in the first gen.

The hybrid uses a unique slip/grip, otherwise the Gen II Highlander's AWD system operates exactly as the Gen I.  The 3.5L 270hp engine is MUCH sweeter, with way more power AND better fuel economy.
No place I'd rather be...

Agreed, I've driven a friends Lexus RX350 and that is a pretty sweet engine. I had the Gen 1 Highlander and found the 50:50 AWD system to be a very good set-up.

Sounds like the Gen 2 is the best of both worlds.
