2007 Camry Passenger side mirror broke
« on: August 10, 2011, 09:19:38 am »
Wife was backing out of garage in a hurry and didnt notice until it was too late that the passenger side mirror got stuck on the garage door rails, broke and fell down on the floor. (2007 Camry). How much will the dealer charge to fix this?
What is the most cost effective option to repair it. I know dealer will be expensive? Any options?

Your best bet may be Standard Auto Wreckers. It has used mirrors at $100. You might luck out and get one the correct body color - you won't have to paint it. There are several variations including heated and unheated. Specify the correct part.

http://www.standardautowreckers.com/

2007 and Newer Camry

1. Lower the window completely and unhook the negative battery cable. Pop off the interior door grab panel. The panel is attached by clips and easily pops free. Remove the two screws behind it. Tip: Buy a $5 Princess Auto door trim remover.

2. Pull the interior door handle open and remove the panel surrounding it. Slide the panel around the interior door handle. Remove the single screw behind the panel.

3. Remove the screw from the upper-corner of the door panel. Insert the door panel door between the door panel and the door to pop out the clips. Once you have a few clips free, you can use your hands to finish removing the door panel.

4. Unhook the wiring holding the door panel to the door. There will be a wiring module attached to the power window assembly and a module attached to the door courtesy light. Once they are removed, set the door panel aside.

5. Disconnect the power window connection module. Hold the outside part of the side view mirror and remove the bolts with your other hand. Once the three bolts (10mm) are removed, the mirror will come free.

If it requires painting you can try a rattle can otherwise you'll have to have a body shop do it, probably another $100.

Thanks for your reply.
They dealer wanted 248$ for the mirror and 99$ for the installation
I ordered the mirror from ebay for 60$ + shipping.
I will try the DIY installation you have posted.
If i cannot do it then i will take it to the dealer. It will still cost me less.

Not sure dealer will be happy to install a Made in China mirror purchased on e-Bay...  Better try an independant shop in your area.

Minou is correct as dealer won't touch it and it probably will not fit/work.  There are 8 variants on that part.  I assume you have the base NA built unit so more used parts available.  As Gardner says auto wreckers are the place to go.  www.car-part.com ..... select Canada.

I know why you are saying 8 variants
Heated and non heated (2) Japanese built and N America built (4) Passenger and driver sider (eight) variants
I ordered the passenger side, heated, NA built variant. I am hoping that it fits.
I looked at it closely yesterday and i could see the electrical connector intact. So it may be just connecting the 3 screws and the electrical connection instead of the longer process..
we will see...

$248 for a new OE one that is colour matched?  CHEAP!  Okay, for a 1997 Camry, I'd try to save some money, but on a 2007 no way I'd monkey around with some on-line wrecker order that might need to be painted.  Spray can?  Again, maybe on an old POS car, but on something that new, no way I'd be doing that.
No place I'd rather be...

It's not an online order.  Car-part locates the part and then one calls the recycler by PHONE and then talks the details.  The mirrors on the Camrys have not changed for 6 years.  There are probably a thousand of these mirrors available in southern Ontario.  The colour matches will be factory exact.

$75.00 is what they cost PAINTED.  :)

Finally got some time to install the mirror yesterday. Took less than 10 minutes. The mirror fit. The power function works (up/down/left/right)
The heated part will probably be verified in winter..

Glad you had a positive experience, not counting your wife breaking the mirror in the first place.

Thanks It was just 3 screws and a connector..
The wife blamed me for this accident (renting a house with such a narrow garage) Our previous home had a 1 1/2 car garage and this is strictly 1 car.

Turn on the defroster and hold your hand on the mirror.  It should become noticeably warm.

You'll get the hang of it. My wife is still blaming me for stuff I did in 1968.

Good job.  If you park outside, in the morning there can be dew on the mirror.  Turning on the mirror defrost/heater should clear it if it is working.
