Hey Guys,
New to the forum, and need a little advice. I just got posted from Nova Scotia to Ontario and need to get my car inspected. Its a 2006 Jetta TDI. When I first drove to Ontario a month ago, I got here and noticed a sound from my front drivers side wheel. Took it to the dealership and they said it was just a buildup of rust on the top of the rotor. They said it would eventually wear off with use and was safe. No issues.
I went to get my car inspected this week, and the mechanic took my wheels off and determined that my car WOULDN'T pass an inspection because he THOUGHT the pads were too low, and the front rotors are rusty. Note the wouldn't pass and thought. He gave me a quote for $500 for new front rotors, pads and rear pads, put the wheels back on and sent it to get etested.
So doing some research I found that there is a minimum for friction material. My question is whether there is any kind of safety thing with the rust on the rotor. The rust isnt on the side of the rotor either, its on the edge. No where close to where the pad grips it.
