Car with high passenger seat?
« on: August 01, 2011, 02:57:40 pm »
Wife has rheumatoid arthritis in both knees and needs car with high seating to slide into and out of.  The Cruze is the only car we are aware of that has adjustable up and down passenger seating but is too small for us.  Are there any mid-sized cars that have high seating or are higher off the ground?  Thank you.

You said medium sized cars and high seating. Do you mean a car that is high enough off the ground to enter easily, or a car that the seat can be raised high enough to make it easier?

Small SUVs are higher off the ground. In terms of cars you would need ones with power seats that raise or ones with manual height adjustment. VWs come to mind with height adjustment IIRC and here I might be looking at a Jetta or wait a bit until the new Passat rolls out.

Lots of others to suggest, but looking on line at different cars will help you narrow your choice when you review specs for each one. Good luck.

How about a CUV, like a CR-V, RAV-4 or Forester?  Maybe a mini-van?
No place I'd rather be...

As others have said, a CUV would mist likely be your best bet. RAV4, CR-V,  Escape, Outlander. etc. Except for some high end models, I don't think too many vehicles today have a passenger seat that goes vertical.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage

I agree on the CUV recommendation.  They pretty much drive like a car, but offer an increased ride height.  There are a bunch of good ones out there.  I'd look at the Sportage, Tucson, Rav 4, CR-V, Rogue if you are considering something on the smaller end of the scale.

Ralphy...give wifey a Tylenol X-Tra strength then drive her to the different dealerships.(NOT in the same day ;)) and let her try the entry egress game.........she will know the right one when she feels it............but then again the looks and Colour ,may bugger up the final decision...............bon chance..........I'm i a somewhat similar situation, wifey has a "bad" knee  and biatches about the Mazda Millenias low seating point of late............but refuses to get a GEL Injection to smooth out the lack of knee cartledge or get a KNEE OP with bluetooth options ;D..........damn a new CUV is 20x a somewhat Free OHIP KNEE......

maybe I can convince her a Nice Bimmer or Merc 250SL conv...is just the ticket.............with a whoopee cushion option......
THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

I agree with the CUV suggestion... but if you really want to stay with a car, how about a Matrix, Rondo (while you can still get them!) or a Mazda5?
