170 on a modern sport bike is a big deal? Man, I hate to break it to people, but many bikes can get to that speed and back to the legal limit in a few car lengths. I was out for a ride yesterday on the highway, and on a two-lane, passed a short line of cars and when I tucked back into the lane, I was, uh, well, let me just say, higher than 170.
No one seemed the least excited about it. No horn honking or fist waving or anything. I just went by, moved back in, slowed back to 110-ish, and it was done. Well, there was a dude on another bike that got all upset when I passed him, still have no idea why. I slipped past this guy as I had a ton of room, so I just eased to barely 140 and floated by. He was on a Victory Vegas 8-ball, and perhaps he was angry that my bike is also matte black?
People that freak out 'cause someone is doing 170 on an open highway are owners of old Tercels with bald tires that have never balanced. 110 feels so damned fast to them, they're sure 170 is completely out of control...
