I sold my VFR 800 when they introduced the new street racing laws and I became a father the same year.  That thing made me act like a fool every time I went for ride.  The dumbest moves and fastest speeds were on group rides with other sport bikes when the combined IQs drops 50% and egos and peer pressure take over.

Ride your own ride... No need to keep up if you don't want to. :)

Yeah 170 km/h is dirtbike speed. I can tell you that is about where a KTM 525 tops out at.

170 and he was probably just getting out of third. I'm pretty sure my XR650R tops out somewhere around that speed. Not many places where you can get that kind of runup though.

And even 305 as the latest do straight out off the showroom floor.

170 is idling.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Yeah and those IQs aren't too high to start off with.

I could never figure out that group ride thing; been on a few and its pure misery. I guess to some/many, its a social event. To me its about motorcycling and seeing places. I always get a chuckle on the forums when someone posts if anyone else is going riding...like you won't go unless someone else comes along?

170 on a modern sport bike is a big deal?  Man, I hate to break it to people, but many bikes can get to that speed and back to the legal limit in a few car lengths.  I was out for a ride yesterday on the highway, and on a two-lane, passed a short line of cars and when I tucked back into the lane, I was, uh, well, let me just say, higher than 170.

No one seemed the least excited about it.  No horn honking or fist waving or anything.  I just went by, moved back in, slowed back to 110-ish, and it was done.  Well, there was a dude on another bike that got all upset when I passed him, still have no idea why.  I slipped past this guy as I had a ton of room, so I just eased to barely 140 and floated by.  He was on a Victory Vegas 8-ball, and perhaps he was angry that my bike is also matte black?

People that freak out 'cause someone is doing 170 on an open highway are owners of old Tercels with bald tires that have never balanced.  110 feels so damned fast to them, they're sure 170 is completely out of control...
No place I'd rather be...
