Girlfriend finally got a replacement vehicle
« on: July 20, 2011, 07:46:49 pm »
We've been shopping for a replacement car for my girlfriend since March and what a headache that's been. We looked at 2007-2009 Hyundai Sonata, 2007 Toyota Corolla, 2008-2010 Hyundai Elantra and several other cars. Nothing but BS when shopping. They want us to pay for certification and/or emission test, some didn't even have all-seasons and were on winter tires that didn't even have minimum tread required for a pass, they didn't want us to inspect the vehicle at our mechanic, etc. As far as I'm concerned (but not required by law, just as long as it's done) if you are selling a car, the seller should certify, emission test and allow a full inspection. That is their responsibility in my opinion and I won't touch the vehicle if those things aren't met. Anyhow, I'm done venting now.  :)

2006 Subaru Impreza Wagon! $13000 before tax, 52,000km and all service records. Purchased at Marino's Fine Cars where she used to work.

She's happy!  Mission accomplished! This weekend I will take this car in to be tinted (35% on the front and 20% rear) and since it already has projectors I will install 6000K Maxcar HID's.

Some pics from the dealership.

Nice car!!!  I'm sure she'll dig it for many years to come...

I'd go with 4300-4500k BTW....lights up the road better....6000k isn't as bright...fewer lumens=less light.

Thanks! Too late though, she already grabbed them at Pacific Mall. She already finds halogen projectors super bright since she's used to yellowed out headlights on her Civic which were not repairable and fogged over.

The handling is amazing, much better than FWD.

We got rid of the Civic due to the rust problems. She was getting so much rust around the wheel wells 2 holes showed up and water was getting into the car. Surprisingly, a girl just came by this evening and purchased it. Only took 2 weeks to sell.

Yeah, it's been there a long time. I believe it was one of the first Fiat dealers, not sure though.

My girlfriend worked as the receptionist 4.5 years ago in their Honda dealership. She knew the sales manager Francesco Taccogna so negotiating wasn't difficult.

Great pick

I've always like these cars and will make driving through winter a breeze.

Quad- I told her to start setting some money aside for her winter tires and rims. I told her not to be fooled by AWD, it gets you going, but you still need 4 winter tires and braking is the same as anything else.

You got it!  A Subaru with 4 snow tires is awesome in the winter.  Great choice!

I used to live across the street on 33rd Ave in Long Branch, and as a kid would stroll on over. Fancied the '91 CRX Si SE, '92 Prelude (loved that car), and the Alfa Romeo 164 and Spyder that were more than a little quirky cool.

Congrats on the Impreza, and aim those HIDs low please  ;D

I'm going to turn her headlights on up to the garage (car hasn't been tinkered with), turn the halogen lights on and put tape where the cut-off is at the top. I will leave the car parked in the same spot and will aim them to put them back at the stock level when installed.  :)

Yes to the winter tires. I've drove a friends Subaru in the winter with four good winter tires and it was so much fun.

QFT. Its not brighter, its bluer. And while cosmetically it looks alright its more irritating for oncoming traffic and lights up the road less well.

I drove head on towards one guy who had literally purple HIDs one day. Hurt like hell. That guy should be found out and shot in the head.
