Topic: Used (3rd Car) Shopping ~ $5k

A co-worker approached me for some advice. He's looking for recommendations for a 3rd car.  He's a young guy (25ish), married with a new baby.  Currently has a Dodge Avenger (barf) and a Hyundai Accent (yawn).  Here are his requirements/limitations:

- Budget of approximately $5k
- RWD (AWD is worst case scenario)
- Rear seat required (for occassional use by children)
- 2 doors
- Something a lot more exciting that what he's got (yeah I know, not hard...)
- Interested in modding
- No preference for US, Japanese or German cars...he's open to anything.

I've so far suggested a Nissan 300ZX, Supra and BMW 328i coupe.  He's looking for more options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, my first recommendation was to dump the Avenger and get a sporty 4-door for the family but I only got a blank look in response...he wants what he wants.

Supra for $5K?  You must mean a MK III.  Those can be money pits, as can the 300ZX.  Best bet?  A Fox bodied Mustang.  Cheap to mod, reliable, light, and fast, fast , fast when done right....
