Looking for a sporty car - $20K ish (used) - UPDATED
« on: July 06, 2011, 01:09:09 pm »
Hey guys,

I’m looking for a sporty car for under $35K. I’m fairly knowledgeable about cars, but just wanted your opinion and maybe some suggestions on what to get. I currently drive an MK4 Golf and before that I drove an Altima Coupe. The fiancé will be getting a car in the next year so I can get away with something that isn’t passenger friendly, hahaha. She’ll be getting a 4 door.

I’ve had my eye on the MK6 GTI for quite some time, but now I’m not so sure. If I was to go used I’ve been thinking of 08’Audi TT. I want something with a little muscle, but fairly comfortable (i.e. NOT an S2000).

Suggest away!!

Thanks

Take a vacation to the US and buy a used 2009 370Z with rev match.   There are no issues with those cars.   Used TT will be great until the bumper to bumper warranty runs out and then the resale will collapse.

The WRX and the GTI are of interest on that list...always liked the RX8 but a little scared re. the rotary engine.

Thanks

So you would take a 370Z over an Audi TT? I feel like the Z will attract the unwanted attention of the young "street racers".

It will attract more attention then a TT, but no more then a GTI or WRX does.  Civics with swaps seem to hunt for me on the streets around here.

Found the 370z to be fun, but coarse. Engine was Unsophisticated in feel, pretty coarse, even if the exhaust note was sweet. Ride was pretty.... Dedicated too. Much more weekend toy than daily driver. If you are a tall guy, then the 370z won't work either. I found the G37s to be much more fun and much more car.

I think the GTI was actually more fun and much more refined.

GTI is a great driver's car.  Genesis coupe is also worth a look new. Used G35 / G37 coupe would be pretty sweet, also.

Z would be hard to beat, though.

Well stay clear of the Red and the horrible Blue.  Go for a Cyber Gray Z.

So you would take a 370Z over an Audi TT?

That's a rhetorical question?  :)

We're down to personal preferences.  A TT is a whole different "lifestyle", for lack of a better expression, than a 370Z.  In terms of money, you'll get burned on the TT on resale.

Carry on!  :)

V6 Genisis Coupe Base is under 35 K new and you might even find a V6 GT close to that.  That would be my first coice if I was able to sacrifice for sport.

I'm biased but next choice would be an MK6 GTI and at 35K yyou'd probaly have some coin left over for a chip and some winter rims/tires. Its not as overly sporty as some of the other choices but is a great car to spend time in if you must have an Auto I might even oput it number 1.

Having driven a 370Z for a brief but fun test drive I can state confidently that it is excellent bang for the buck with 'likely' high reliabilty for the long term buy. The G37S M6 equally so except you get more room and a little more plushness. Either car is a good buy and can be had for South of $35K state side. I got my 2010 for $34K and $42 tax in last year.
If the Audi tunrs your crank the only one worth buying is the TTS or TTRS where each is out of your price range. Same for an A5 and more so for an S5.
WRX also a good choice.
