Changing car dics and pads???
« on: July 02, 2011, 11:56:33 pm »
Hi,

I would loke to seek your feedback about changing my car discs and pads. I have an 2004 Acura EL. What do you recommend to go with original Acura discs and pads or to try the ones in ebay where you can get drilled rotors and ceramic pads? Will it be a big difference to try the ones on ebay? Will it harm my car if I go with the aftermarket ones?

Thanks

I would stay away from ebay. Check out M-Sport Cross Drilled/Slotted rotors, which are made in Canada. I just put them on my TSX and Odyssey.

I also got Hawk Performance Ceramic pads as well, which are made in the USA.

IMO, Honda/Acura rotors are poor quality, and overpriced as well.

I'd get some inexpensive ones from a local supplier, th Rhonda ones are way over priced.

Just make sure you dont get the cheapest ones the jobber has. Those are usually crap quality. I used to spend a lot of time trying to talk people out of wasting their money on those.

Sounds a bit fishy to me. In fact I'd say it fell flat.

Cross drilled rototrs have esentially no value on a street car.

They might look cool but its a waste of $. Are you going to race your 2004 EL on the track? If not ceramic pads are pretty well a waste also.

Go with a good quality aftermarket rotors like Brmbo blanks and quality "street" pad like Hawk and you'll be good to go.

Ceramic pads are pretty much regular fare now.  Cross drilled rotors are probably not worth the trouble.

Agree about the cross drilled being a waste of $$$$, though many ceramic compounds are quite good with the added benefit of little to no brake dust.

My bad I had it in my head we were tallking about ceramic ROTORS  not pads. Yes there are ceramic everyday pads out there. I should not exclude those.

Keep in mind that the "ceramic" portion of the pad can be as little as 5% so better to shop by brand.
