KRS's new Camaro
« on: July 02, 2011, 07:55:17 pm »
Following on from this thread:

http://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php/topic,74410.0.html

some pics!

It's funny, this car never really got my attention when it first came out, although I did look at it semi-seriously, but I didn't think the kids would fit in the back.  During the shoot it really grew on me, the evil front look, the rear haunches, and I love the tail lights.  With 300+bhp the V6 is most definitely lots of bang for buck, and the Victory Red paint is a real head turner, I saw lots of people eyeing this car up as we moved between locations.

Anyway, on with the pics...

Beautiful, as always, Rob. I agree with you. It is an incredibly dramatic, expressive car. I am still surprised that GM put it into production without watering it down. It is a very sweet car and a sensational value,  and it still surprises me that it is treated with such anger and animosity in these pages.

Once my accommodations get sorted out, I would love to have some of your work on my wall.

So...........explain to me again why you aren't doing all the media images for GM's ad campaigns ?

Great shots!

Excellent idea. Have my vote. Be nice to see some automotive artwork that is of high quality. As bland as car design is, car ads are even worse.

Nice shots, but the Camaro is still an overstuff pig imo

C'mon, this is show 'n' shine.  No negative comments about peoples' cars please.

Thank you Rob. You make it look better then the GM people ever managed to in the pamphlets.

Some people may not like it, and I know the interior is a real dividing point but I love this car the most of any I've ever bought. The Lancer was a very nice car (though the dealer network did make owning it challenging) but the Camaro has twice the power but if I drive it like its a commuter I can almost match the Lancers fuel economy, while being able to have a blast with a bit of right foot.  It's the first car I have ever owned where I was willing to get up early enough to drive to where I could get pictures like this taken.

With the third tank of gas I did the math and the fuel average display said it was 7.4l/100 and the actual math was 7.39l/100km.  I was quite surprised that 1.) it was so close to accurate and 2.) I was able to resist temptation for most of the tank to get the mileage that good. All in all i'm very impressed that it came close to the EPA ratings already

For any one with a car you love enough to want Quality photo's of Turbo Bob's work speaks for itself but do be aware photographers seem to love the morning light so for his best results plan for early arrival.

Great shots again, Bob! My favourites are 'A good day for a ride', 'Rig shot' and 'Mean'.

I like your use of backlight in 'A good day...'. Combined with the warm WB they make for an untypical (muscle) car shot. I would love to ride that car on that road that morning.

Q: The dynamic range in 'A good day...' seems quite high, any PP wizardry involved? And what kind of strobe setup did you use on these shots?

On the Camaro: I think those steel wheels look very purposeful on the car. If it were my car I would definitely not change them for any bling wheels.

Thanks.

On the backlit shot, I used a three exposures, one for the sky, one for the car, and one for the trees/road, and blended them.  I didn't have enough time to set up lighting for that shot (which would have been the alternative) for two reasons.  One the sun was coming up really quickly, and we needed to get the shot done in minutes, and secondly we were taking up the middle of the road, so had to move everything every time a car came past.  Sort of like the street hockey scene in Wayne's World!  :rofl2:

The strobes I used for a lot of the shots were two AB800's (Alien Bees).  Everything (apart from the portable power) is wireless, which is awesome.

Oh, and a phone shot of the rig set up.
