Instrument panel light burnt out on 2002 Subaru Legacy
« on: June 30, 2011, 01:55:21 am »
I was just informed by my son, that a light bulb in the instrument panel is burnt out on our 2002 Subaru Legacy.

The bulb that is burnt out, lights the right side of the speedometer.

I was hoping that someone on the forum, with knowledge of Subaru's would be able to give me some guidance on how to replace the bulb myself.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, but would hate to have to take it to a Subaru dealer and have an astromical bill for something so cheap as a bulb.

Something like this, I would guess...Any of this look like your car??

Thanks rrocket. Other then the trim, its the same instrument cluster. Looked online and couldn't find anything, never thougth of searching for Subaru forums.

I will study the procedure, and when my son doesn't require the vehicle for school or work, will give it a go.

If you have difficulty, you could try asking someone at the service department of your local Sube dealer.  I couldn't figure out how to uncouple a wiring connector when removing the instrument panel for the Focus.  I stopped by the Ford stealership and the service guy came out and showed me how to uncouple it.  I bought some bulbs from the parts counter as my way of saying "thanks".
