V8 Supercars
« on: June 19, 2011, 04:59:27 am »
I have been to INDY, NASCAR, and various events at Mosport but nothing compares to the show the put on by the Australia for the v8 Supercars. Beginning on Friday and though to Sunday the track is always busy with a number of racing series qualifying, practicing and racing. In between racing they send out stunt drivers on bikes and in cars to keep the fans entertained. The event was well above my expectations and will make a point to see another in my travels.

The Ford vs. Holden rivalry is intense. While using the public buses traveling back and forth to the track from the hotel the banter, singing, and trash talk was always present but very friendly. Any loud mouth drunks were immediately dealt with tossed off the bus by the passengers. When people found out I was from Canada the riot jokes were relentless.

In some way I wish Canada was more like Australia and isolated from the influence of the USA. For such a small country they have a lot going for them.

Our kind hosts :)

The coolers full of Jim Beam and Coke were of to the side. The girls make the corporate tent tour but I was preoccupied at the time  :)

I am so dam jealous!!!  I love V8 Supercars, my guy is the 88 Vodaphone in that pic.  I think it's the greatest stockar racing there is.  They use real cars, RWD, small V8, working lights, doors actually open!  Compare to Nascar where they use a stupid universal shell with silly decals to make it look like a real car that in real life is a gutless boring FWD except for the Charger.

I know a few Aussies through work, they are great and funny people, we always have a great time with them.  In the next 18 months I may get shipped there for a conference that they will host, I plan to attend one of these races.

I do online racing with rFactor if anyones knows what this is all about, I actually own and run a V8 Supercar league, it's a hoot!

More pics please, Pit bunnies??

Yep, the aussies sure know how to party.  The Ford Holden thing is hilarious.  I would have loved to have gone to Bathurst when I was living there, but never got the chance.

the V8's are moving more towards NASCAR and standardizing frames, engines, bodies, and suspensions. The series is very competitive and  track position is key. There are a number of rules that make it interesting with soft and hard compound tires that must be used during the race.

They do not toss out a yellow to bunch up the field but on the Sunday race with 10 laps to go a full course yellow made it interesting as cars were on different tires so the drivers back in the field with softs came up and challenged in the end and eventually the leaders succumbed.

Rumors have it the series will now allow other makes to participate and Hyundai and Toyota are lurking...

No interest then.  Hate "protectionism" in a race series.  Usually means they status quo knows they will get spanked...

They would be wise to peek at Nascar and see what this typre of crapola has done to them.

Drool     Best racing in the world, I think.

Juke1, I used to race in an rFactor league that used a mostly fixed setup V8 Supercar. The wheel and pedals have been collecting dust for years, dunno if I want to get back at it or not yet. Currently I'm nursing bruised ribs from driving my gearbox kart.  :-[

I'll PM you for details of your league.  :)

SPEED is now carrying races live for the first time! The Bathurst 1000 was on last night. Incredible, awesome. And the Gold coast race (the street course CART ran at) is in 2 weeks;

Watched it last night, great racing. Missed the last lap when the PVR tuned to TSN for the F1 race.  :(

Watched it last night, great racing.

It sure was!!!! Not on TV (don't get that channel), but on YouTube.

Now that closeness would have me watching car racing again. The other would be WRC. Sorry to say, the other forms that I can think of, lack excitement.

That helicopter view of the downhill esses...  that is what I call a track!

Got to go visit my aunt on the Gold Coast and hang around for six months of motorcycling.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.
