Use Premium 91 or better, althought using 94 might be a waste of money, It should run very well on 91.

As always, check your Manual.

I understand that. I also understand that the topic has probably been beaten to death elsewhere but what I have found in my experience is that not all gas is made equal. Is it safe to use Ultramar 91 gas as they claim they don't add ethanol to it? Or should I stick to 'better' brands like PetroCan and Esso?

I stick to the "better" brands like Chevron (you don't have it there) and Shell. But, all 91 octane should be roughly the same, it's only the brand's additives that differ. BMW suggests you stay with the global "top tier" gasolines. Avoid ethanol.

Yeah, that consumption is a bit steep.  My 330i averages 9L/100 km or less with mixed commuting (perhaps more hwy than you do?).  I suspect Ovr50 is right that once she loosens up a bit, you'll see a considerable improvement.

My 2003 330x1 took about 20,000 kms before the fuel ( and oil) consumption settled down. Mind you that was the earlier engine family and it was a 5mt not a 6 mt.  But it did get down to the 9 l/100 for mixed commuting that GD gets

Congratulations on the new 328i xDrive.  Great to see that you went with the manual too.

Your fuel economy in the 12L/100km is high but as other have said I think it will get slightly better as the power train loosens up.  With my 128i I see ~11L/100km in 100% city stop and go driving but on the highway I've seen as low as 7.5L/100km.

I am already seeing lower numbers (11.5) after the first refill but, this being my first bmw, it is veeeery hard to be gentle with the 'go' pedal  ;D

I hear ya. My 128 was my first BMW and it's hard to keep it under 4K rpm during the breakin. ;D

I use Shell V-Power because that's what I can get around me that has no ethanol.  My dealer recommended Shell or Esso for my car.

Yeah, I agree with you that not all gasoline is created equal.  We used to filled up our TSX with any brand of 91, but have noticed an improvement now that it also only drinks (ethanol free) Shell V-Power.

I don't think Ultramar is bad by any means...in fact the lack of ethanol would make me gravitate towards it over Esso/PetroCan.

My Z4 gets 11.5 or so on Shell 91, but I'm either stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, or I'm mashing the go-pedal, so its not that bad.

Got about 8.0 once on a "quiet" run into work, about 50/50 city/highway. Turned into 8.6 once I completed my circuitous run down to the 3rd level of the parking garage though ::)

I am grateful to be within 2 minutes of a nice, new, shiny Shell.

If I had no Shell V-Power, that would be my first choice to try as well because of the 'no ethanol'.

Huh?   ???

I get around 11.5 now.  It used to be lower, but now I mash the gas and keep it in 'DS' mode (more aggressive gearing).  I figure, I bought a twin-turbo, must as well use it, gas be damned.

You must REALLY use your Genesis!   ;D
