Multiple cell/smart phones and Infiniti Bluetooth system
« on: June 13, 2011, 10:43:16 am »
I have two cell phones that I use daily and my Wife one. Have many cell/smart phones will a cars boothtooth recognize? I think in my Infiniti G37S that the system will only accept one. Anyone know for sure or what about your own vehicle?

I believe they will accept more than one - mine I think is two, but only one will be primary in that phonebooks will be there etc.

You can register up to 5 phones on Infiniti's BT system.  I've had 4 paired with no issues at all.

Really?!
I tried setting up a 2nd one but it didn't seem to take it. I'll try it again.
I've been stymied as well with the damn gargage door openers as well and the homelink system. I've had home link on the last two cars and no troubles setting it up to work, and with the rolling  codes. Infinti's systems seem kind'a finiky.

Thanks.
The system supports up to five (5) different phones. However, only one phone can be used at a time.
So, if I have two (or more) phones 'on' in the cabin at the same time
(to send or receive calls) only one will be able to be 'discovered' and broadcast over that specific bluetooth connection? Or, will the system be able to accept incomming/outgoing calls from any of the five devices as long as I don;t try to communicate over more than one ata time?

You can have up to 5 different phones paired to the BT system simultaneously, however only one can make/receive BT calls at a time.

I'm not sure how many phones our Acura will pair, but I do know with 2 paired phones in the car only one will pair when the car is started. IE if my wife is with me, only one of our phones will pair. If a call comes in on the phone that has not paired, you have to answer the phone as you would normally.

I don't know what the limit is on our BMW, but I know I've had 5 on there before.  I can only call from or receive calls from one at any particular time, but switching between phones is quick.

Bingo. That's my point.
In other words; The Infiniti system will pair with up to five different phones but if all five recognized phones are 'on' in the cabin the system will only pair with one.
Is this only so with Infiniti and Acura or the industry standard?

Standard, IMO.  My BT on my Garmin is like this...and my sweet aftermarket BT head unit was like this.

Mine's the same - can pair up to 10 (!) devices, but use only one at a time.  Can choose which one to pair to through screen menu though

The JVC headunit in my Versa pairs with 5 separate BT devices and can switch between two phones with one touch. It only cost about $300, so I imagine a high-end Infiniti system could do that and much more.

After almost a year, I can honestly say it's a thoroughly impressive unit and I would definitely buy JVC again.

So, if you have five blue tooth phones in the car how do you know which phone is ringing? Does the system prompt you?

I phoned two different Infiniti dealers today inquiring about this issue. Each confirmed that yes, the system will accept pairing of five different phones however, only one phone (the first phone in the car or with the higher priority) would be paired with the system. All other phones on in the cabin would ring on their handsets only. There would be no prompt to switch between phones for incoming calls.
Intelligent car yes, but not THAT intelligent.

Perhaps Infiniti changed the system on the G37s, but my 07 will definitely pair two phones at once.  I know this because mine and my wife's phones both pair on entry of the car. When one of us get a phone call it unpairs the other phone.  When the phone call is done it automatically re-pairs to the BT system.
The Infiniti system WILL pair more than one phone in the cabin at the same time.

My AMAZING HYUNDAI will store up to 5 phones, and if multiple phones are in the car at the same time you can prioritise the order in which they pair.  So mine first, then the wife's.  ;D

The reason it only pairs with one at a time is because it downloads the entire address book for voice dialing.

Yes, but there is only one person in the car that is busy with their hands.  Or should be anyway!  :rofl2:
