Topic: Considering selling used truck at a local auction

I am considering selling my 1996 Mazda B-series RWD truck at a local auction unreserved (reserved is strictly for vehicles younger than 10 years). Cost is a $35 entry fee plus 10% of the auction price (min $65).

 I could sell the truck privately, but I don't want to deal with all the tire kickers and such....would like to sell it off in the next month or two.

 The truck has just over 150,000 km. I bought the truck at 60,xxx km about 11 or so years ago (just after the 3 year factory warranty had expired).

 Needs a new windshield (has a long crack near the top, but isn't in the vision area). Cost for a replacement windshield is in the low $300 range plus 12% HST. Replace windshield?

 Also, I have a set of four fairly new studded winter tires on it's own rims. I was thinking about including the tires with the truck. I don't want to be bothered selling the winter tires separately.

Is it an auto-only auction or a general auction?  Either way you'll likely get peanuts for your truck.  If you do decide to sell it at auction, don't bother fixing the windshield.

Two local auctions....one is Ritchie Bros which sells everything and the other is strictly vehicles...government, repo, lease returns and consignment...about 75-100 vehicles per auction day.

I will have to check with the auctioneer about the windshield. If they can sell it with the longitudinal crack, then I will leave it as is. Thanks.

Selling it privately, what is he going to get, two grand? Hard to see any big loss.

Agree on the windshield, buying at an auction the big worry is that it's there because of major mechanical issues coming up.

Seems to me you aren't going to get much for it at an auction. I'd throw it up on kijiji.ca for what you'd expect at auction with phone number only and it should go pretty quick. The time wasting folks usually send cryptic emails.
