Bristol Cars goes into administration

Luxury car manufacturer Bristol Cars has gone into administration, it has been confirmed.

It has been hand-building luxury cars since 1946 at its factory in Filton in the north of Bristol.

The firm, whose models include the Fighter and the Blenheim, has a single showroom in London.

Tom MacLennan and Trevor Binyon from RSM Tenon were appointed as joint administrators for the company on Thursday.

Mr MacLennan said: "While there have been a number of immediate redundancies due to the financial position of the company, we are maintaining the sales and service operations so customers will continue to be supported.

"We would urge any interested parties to make contact with us as quickly as possible and are confident that we can secure the future of this iconic British brand."

Bristol Cars began life as an aeroplane maker - the Bristol Aeroplane Company - but after the second world war moved into the luxury, hand-built car market.
"The car is the closest thing we will ever create to something that is alive." - Sir William Lyons

    L. J. K.  Setright must be spinning in his grave.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I just watched the movie "An Education" and they had a Bristol 405 in it, thought it looked interesting but otherwise never really heard of them before.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Setright was one of the real characters in automotive journalism. A pompous, miserable old bastard of a guy, who sure loved his Bristols, Preludes and BMW bikes. Was certainly not afraid to trash any vehicle he didn't care for.

Single worst review of an Aston Martin I ever read was by Setright, the consummate Bristol fan.

But he did put his money where his mouth was. He owned Bristols.

First article I used to read in CAR each  month was Setright.

Don't misunderstand me. Loved reading his stuff. Even had some books by him.

Yup, first column in Car, and the last page in Car and Driver.
