Am I the only one who thinks the current Mercs are hideous?? They're so droopy with ugly lines.

:hurl:

GLK's look fabulous.

New Merc's look great.

Saw one of those E-coupes today.  They tempt even this hard-core Bimmer gal.   ;D

Is that Vermillion Red Ovr?  Where's your own thread??

Julie, yes it's the Vermillion Red with Black leather, and the dark wood trim. MSport pkg and some other stuff.

I think ppl are tired of my BMW-escapades so didn't bother with a thread. I'm very pleased with it. It's not an M3 but is so much more practical. It is an entirely different car to the previous X3.

Its my Parents. They're back in Canada for a few months and will be on a regular basis. So between renting a Dodge Nitro at $1000/month x 5 months per year or buying a GLK....

I'll just mooch it when I need space. :)

EDIT: The GLK feels amazingly porky. I find myself driving at or under the speed limit because

1. there's almost no increase in noise etc. under 100km/h or so, so I can't really tell naturally without looking at the speedo.
2. just not used to pressing the gas pedal down that far. :o
3. the fuel consumption meter spends a lot of time over 15. ;D Hopefully it will get better once broken in, but I doubt the car will see more than 10k/yr so its not a massive issue.

Interestingly, I noticed today that the OEM tires (Dunlop GrandTrek Touring M&S) actually have the mountain-snowflake symbol on them. Is this pretty typical of Truck/SUV tires? I assume this means they passed some relatively simple performance test related to snow traction, but I doubt they're actually very good in the winter.

Still, good fodder for insurance?

Not really great for winter driving, and the 20"s can get damaged very easily due to thin rubber.

I was hoping MB Canada would add the GLK300 with the smaller V6 (3.0L) and smaller rims (maybe 18") for better fuel efficiency and a lower starting price to better compete against the X3 28i and Q5 2.0T.
Believe it or not, the officially 0-100km/hr is 6.5s on the GLK350.
Even if the GLK300 does 7.5s, it would still be fast enough for most MB buyers.

Well, you never know, may a GLK250 with the 1.8T for MY2013.

Bring it back if the oil is low, they didn't do the pdi.

Don't intend to actually use them in the winter, but if you switch off your tires early / put them on late and get into a crash, the Insurance Co can't deny coverage due to you saying you used four winter tires between Nov 15 and Apr 15...because they have a snowflake on them. So its just fodder. :)

Yep, I recall I said that already, It feels way heavier, and unresponsive. To me, the GLK is a very old person's car/truck. BTW, I know it's the parents, not yours. NOT a vehicle if you actually like driving.

Agreed.  We very briefly considered the GLK but found that there were too many compromises including fuel consumption and interior space efficiency.  It looks kinda cool but I've also read several road test reviews where they've complained about vagueness and dis-connectedness (new word!) in the steering.  Hardly your typical Teutonic driving experience.

Again, I like the looks.....

Congrats on the GLK. I love the look!
