The Merrrrrrrcedes
« on: May 29, 2011, 11:28:44 am »
Picked this up yesterday.

First impressions...compared to the Z4 its a huge rolling bankvault. Significantly quieter than the TSX too.

Engine shows enough power but you can tell its a heavy (both actual mass and driveline friction) car.

Steering is very light and lacks a strong return-to-center feel. Accurate though. But still not as good on-center as the TSX (!!!). Surprising that neither German car can best the TSX in on center feel, maybe a testament to Honda here.

Base sound system is pretty good (I'm sure the HK system is bonkers).

Trying to figure out how to limit the lift-height of the power tailgate. Not sure if it is possible.

The creeping speed of the GLK is uber slow. I'm not sure if this is because its defaulted into 2nd gear (I think it even has two reverse gears, one high one low), but you actually have to get on the gas just to move sometimes which is a little irritating.

Nice seats. Three memory slots for seats (both sides), mirrors, and steering position. Seats themselves are 10 way power lumbar (or 12? Not sure)

The pouch for the manual does not seem to fit in the glovebox. ::)

I've always liked the look of these. Any chance of a couple of interior pics?

Did you happen to notice when the diesel version is coming out?
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Thanks :)

I can snap some interior shots later today. Not sure on the diesel...it would be a good motor for this car given the rather poor fuel efficiency of the gasser, but then a $3k premium to get to fuel economy parity with the Audi and BMW might not be the best deal. Who knows though, they sell plenty of them as it is.

The car came with the oil level (Note to BMW: dipstick is good) right on the minimum line. Manual says that Min to Max is about 1.5 to 2.0 litres. The sump is 7.4 Litres total. So almost 24% down from max. :o

The engine did sound rather rough on cold start. I put half a litre of GC in.

Guess I should go check the tire pressure. Just couldn't be bothered to drive back tbh.

GC is MB 229.5 cert.

What is the rest of the PDI anyways...rip off plastic, set language to English, etc.

I think it's kind of small for that. Most of the GLK's I see around here are being driven by 50+ "empty nester" types.

Nice car BTW..... I like the fact it's not bubble shaped like so many small CUV's.

My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

I love the boxy look, and it looks great it black. I got to flog one of these at the Autoshow, and I can agree with the light steering and tank like drive. The engine/exhaust sounded good when floored though. :) I'd take my money towards the X3 IMO.

Light steering?  Really?  Damn.  The thing I like best about every MB I owned was the big wheel attached to the heavily weighted steering with terrific on-center feel.
No place I'd rather be...

....

The rumored upcoming GLK250 BlueTEC should be a 2.2L I4 diesel, which should be less expensive than the GLK350.
But even if it were to be a GLK350 BlueTEC it should only be $1500 more than the GLK350 gas.
At least that's the price difference between the ML350 and ML350BT.

Congratulations, I'm sure the family will be more than happy with your accommodations.  ;D
