Took the belt off, no whine / whir.

lubed belt, spun alternator / A/C and waterpump by hand, all felt smooth as silk.  Tightened belt to insane tightness, same whir.

Dropped off at the dealer this morning, crossing my fingers on a free water pump!

It's not the tranny unless that is driven by the serpentine belt ;). Since it stops when the belt is removed.  Besides drivetrain is under warranty so I wouldn't care much.

Oh and the dealer said there is no problem ugh.... Told them to try again later.

Alternator!  Odd it felt just fine to me, but I guess it wasn't bad enough to feel really bad yet.

$500 later I'm on my way.  So much for legendary Toyota quality only 40k on the car and 5 months out of warranty, hey wasn't there another company people said stuff like that about not long ago? haha j/k

Oh I can barely move the belt let alone twist it.  Yeah I got the service manual was going to loosen it a bit and try that

Drive belt was too tight and took the bearing out.  Belt should have approx. 1/4 inch deflection at the centre point.

When I checked last night it easily had 1/4-inch deflection don't think it was that, but it certainly could have been!

Wow, 500 clams for a Toyota alternator? Wow. Last time I did one of those it was on an old RWD Delta 88 Oldsmobile, think the part was like $60, all done in 30 minutes and I didn't even bother with the core charge refund. Damn funny little furrin cars... ;)

List is $544.50 for that alternator!   :fall:

I most certainly would have looked for a jobber.

They only charged me 265 for a new Toyota one.  I called around 350+ core charge.  Total was 470 all in, they certainly didn't hose me as much as I expected.

Yes but you had to change it every 3 years when it broke once again. ;D

Apparently the $500 Toyota alternator lasts an extra year longer. Good value there.  ::)

Nope, probably never have to replace it again.

Yeah, keep perpetuating the misinformation mythology that the Toyo-types count on, even though it's obvious that the bean counters now rule at that company.

Toyota is looking into it.  Not sure what they are looking into but I thought I would drop them an email and ask if they had a high failure rate.

Moan and whine for me.

Tracy started her trip to Cornwall this morning to get her G license (FINALLY!) and her Yaris broke!  Seriously?  It's making the weirdest noise, sounds like a pulley rubbing or something, all looks smooth under the hood though.

I gave her the Explorer and now have to bring the Yaris to the dealership... maybe it will be under powertrain warranty still?

Ugh!!!  Good thing she left early, the car was fine until about 30 km later.

I didn't think those broke!  ;D
