They must be going 20km/h?

Seriously I am driving one this week.  I'm averaging 15 all highway driving.  At a constant speed of 100km/h the instant reads 15/16 depending on the terrain.

It is no better than e V8 from what I can tell, I fully expected to drop into the 9s on the highway but it isn't even close.

Drove around today managed to drop to 15.8 average.

With a light right foot at 70km/h on flat it is at about 8

But as soon as you have to move from a stop it's horrible, even slow acceleration it is up into the 40 range so it is tough.

Real world has nothing to do with the ratings. My Ridgeline takes flack in reviews for getting mileage similar to full size trucks with V8s. In the real world it is not even close. Even with my heavy foot I am getting 14.8L/100kim and highway drops to the 11L/100km range at 125 km/h. It would appear as if the domestics have figured out how to "cheat" the test using extra tall gear ratios etc..

Sounds about the same as my 5.7 Tundra.

I meant in my experiences. My Dodge Dakota 4.7L was rated the same as the Ridgeline yet the best I could eke out was about 18L/100 km city and 15L/100km highway.  The Ram 1500 (4.7L) I drove for about a month was dead on with the Dakota. In my experiences I have not been able to get anywhere near the city ratings..

Whoops I just noticed that 4.7 Rams with 4WD are only rated at 18L/100km city. Looks like they were spot on.

I took out 5l V8, no ecoboost in town, my route most rual, 60-80 km/hr, 10 km, then on the hiway, #45 to Grafton and back, 20 km at 105 km/hr i avg 11.2 l/100km in the crew cab and 11.4 in the super cab

The terrian is hilly

In the New Quest I measured 9.1 l/100km

So you are getting nowhere near the ratings. That was sorta my point...I think. ???

Has it gotten past that break in period the dealer says you have to drive in order for it to finally get its best mileage? (which is anywhere from 2-10,000km depending which forum or salesman you happen to read/hear.

The "break in" period is absolute BS.  Whenever gas mileage poses a potential objection to closing a sale the old "break in" BS is commonly introduced.

Next time you hear this crap nail the dealer person hard and ask them specifically to identify what exactly "breaks in" and answer's like the "motor" don't suffice.  If they can't, then have them bring in the service manager and watch him try and say that with a straight face.

You will never get better mileage than when the vehicle is brand new.

Yup...my buddy worked in the dyno room at Ford and said engines were broken in the minute they drove off the line.

Even for engines that truly require break in, many engine builder's suggested break in is to beat the living crap out of it...
