Thiking of a van
« on: May 01, 2011, 03:33:12 pm »
 :'(

I used EPa rate mileage , 24,135 km, @ $1.35/litre, 20%city, 80% hiway
Think of trading in the pick up for a van,  trade in value of the truck was about 4gs. 2003 gmc extend cab, 220,000 km with a cap
Cost of gas $5475
Look at  Frontier 2wd, new cap cost about 3gs, with rebate cost is $20,000 out the door
cost of gas $3650
Took a new Quest out, very nice ride, a lot of room inside, like any van, could carry 10 ft inside no problem.
Mile would about the same as the 2011 Odyssey
Cost of gas $3066 price $31,700 OTD

The Odyssey was also a nice drive, do not have a price yet but base price is the same has a Quest

Did not find  a Sienna comfortable because on my knee, did not feel like there enough travel in the seat

The grand Caravan interior looks nice, did not get to see inside one yet will have to do that still. I think there some deals on now, to make up the $300 / year extra cost in gas

Another option is to drive the Prius, but it is a little tight inside and  hard to load and unload. Then may get the wife a CT200H, or a load Elentra to drive around in
Cost of as $1600

Sat in a Elantra Touring but it was awfully, if it was the new Elantra( much nicer) it would be just a maybe do to size Cost of gas $2650

Or just drive the truck untill it dies

I think it more of a want thing then a need thing

Will only need for 7 years, did think of a Santa Fe because of the 84 month at 0%, but sore knee again

Any other thoughts?

I haven't driven any of the current crop of vans and haven't even been inside most of them, but I was really impressed by the Quest I saw at the dealership - and thought the pricing was pretty darned good.
