Finally picked it up yesterday, got the windows tinted today.  Waited 7 weeks to get the model we wanted in Polar White.  My first Hyundai.  Wish me luck.  :)

Congrats! Life with the Hyundai should be sweet. I drove my daughter's 2005 Tucson last week end and it still drives like new. Only warranty issue in 6 years was one air bag sensor replaced free of charge of course. Love the look of the Touring. Very european looking.

Right on! I like the Touring very much... they look alright in pictures but much better in person on the road. The first time I saw one I was a little surprised at how well put together it looked. That was one of the sport models with the 17in aluminum. I also hear that they are extremely practical... moreso than many compact CUV/SUVs.

Enjoy and keep us up to date on how you like it!

Hope that the cops don't pay too close attention to that front tint, or you may have to peel it off.

Congrats! Glad you were able to get the exact car you wanted, even if you had to wait.  Looks real nice in white.  What percentage is your tint?

IIRC it's Korean made, so you should be fine. Did they bring it from another dealership or was it a part of a new factory shipment?
Congrats!

Congrats DJeffer.  Auto or manual?  I definitely considered white when we were looking at ETs, but my wife kiboshed that idea.  We're both OK with our carbon grey ET (used, so no choice on the matter), but the white does look good.  Best part of the ET for us so far - got the cargo cover, torque wrench, emergency blanket, donut/jack/ first aid kit, flashlight, tow hook, jumper cables, assorted screwdrivers/wrenches - all underneath the cargo floor, and there's room for more.  Dog has lots of room in the hatch, even with the dog barrier up.  I wish the tranny had a 6th gear, and I may be wanting more power when it's fully loaded and passing on the highway, but overall it's a nimble handler in town (great turning radius) and fun to drive (for a 2.0L compact wagon).  What's your thoughts on the drive?  Anything standing out for you now, good or bad?

Ontario is very lenient on tint. Everyone here who has tinted windows usually does it all around (minus windshield of course). 20 and 35% tints are popular.

Congrats on the Elantra Touring! Looks great.

the front window isn't tinted...it likely just looks that way because of the angle the picture is taken at...tinting the front window is illegal (and i doubt the tint shop would do it).

the tine is 20% all around (except the front window of course).

yes, it is made at their Ulsan, South Korea factory...it was part of a new shipment, which is why we had to wait 7 weeks for it...there weren't any available to grab from another dealership.

Congrats DJeffer.  Auto or manual?
manual...it will eventually be a "2nd car" when i replace the Taurus in the not too distant future (with a Sonata 2.0T Limited w/Nav).

i hadn't considered white, but my wife really wanted a white one...the last 3 Focus' we bought were silver and dark grey, so she wanted to get something different...i have never owned a white car before, but they do look nice...i have heard they aren't too bad for keeping clean (as lighter coloured cars usually "keep clean" better).

yea, after researching various cars, the ET has by far the most amount of space compared to ANYTHING else available (aside from the Kia Rondo perhaps)...but comparing it to Mazda 3 Sport, Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus hatchback, Kia Forte5, Honda Fit, etc, they just don't come close...the ET has almost as much space as most "wagons" do (93% of the size of a Golf Wagon) and compact SUVs (similar in size to a Ford Escape)...it is deceptive, because it doesn't look that big (doesn't really look that much bigger than our Ford Focus we returned).

tell me about this dog barrier, where did you get it, how much was it?...we have 3 dogs we like to take to the dog park and while they don't hop the seat, it might be nice to "box them in".

95% of my driving is in the city anyway, so the 6th gear isn't a deal breaker for us...i too noticed it "average" for power (as in, not a race car), but really, it essentially ends up being a commuter car, with utility if we want to drive to Ikea or somewhere and need some storage capability.

in terms of the drive, i suppose it is tough to say...not because there is anything wrong with it...it handles reasonably well, i find the 15" tires are great for going over broken pavement/potholes which is quite common here in town...the engine is a bit noisy, but not something i would consider overbearing or even an issue, as it isn't a luxury touring car, and i haven't driven it on the highway yet, so i can't comment about cruising at 115 km/hr speeds...steering seems easy and direct...the audio system is average (i am somewhat of an audiofile though, so, to be honest, it isn't that great, but most cars in this class aren't, unless you spend a small fortune, which wasn't an option here)...fit and finish is great, no squeaks/rattles, gaps and seams are tight...lots of space inside (headroom, legroom, etc)...overall, a very good practical car...i have only driven about 120 km so far, but i am averaging about 8 liters/100 km in strictly city driving, which i think is rather decent considering it is brand new.

I'll have to ask my wife, she got it a few years ago when we still had the Focus wagon.  It's just a metal grate with telecoping legs.  We attached it to the back seat head rests for further security - I'll take some pics in the next few days and post them.  It works very well, and keeps the mutt in the back (he does jump the seat - he seems to think he's a back seat dog now).

"the audio system is average (i am somewhat of an audiofile though, so, to be honest, it isn't that great, but most cars in this class aren't, unless you spend a small fortune, which wasn't an option here)..."

I've been reasonably impressed with the audio.  It's not super clean, but far better than the Subaru Forester I was considering.  I'm looking at an under-the-seat subwoofer, just to fill in the bass a little bit - would have to go with an amplifier / new head / new speakers to truly get impressive sound, but that's not really the point.  I just want to get a little more bass, without losing cargo space.

"fit and finish is great, no squeaks/rattles, gaps and seams are tight...lots of space inside (headroom, legroom, etc)...overall, a very good practical car...i have only driven about 120 km so far, but i am averaging about 8 liters/100 km in strictly city driving, which i think is rather decent considering it is brand new."

We're about the same - around 8L or so, mix of city and short (20 km) highway trips to the barn.  I'm interested to see how the mileage does in the long term.  It doesn't appear to be as fuel efficient as the newest compacts (Focus, Forte, 2011 Elantra, etc.) but I have a feeling the real-world mileage won't be that far off.  And it's about 10 - 15% better than my old Spec V (butdown on power), and WAY better than driving around in the F150 (duh!)

Looks almost like my Protege5 (white with tints) but a whole lot newer! Can't beat the functionality and economy of a compact hatch, you'll enjoy it.

Congrats!  The ET is one of the last big inside yet small outside wagons. Enjoy it for many years.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

for those who are curious, i set the cruise on at 110 km/hr in 5th gear and the engine speed was 3000 RPMs...a little higher than i am used to, but it was still rather quiet in the cabin...i recall the Sonata with 6 speed auto was around 1800 RPM at 100 km/hr, so the extra gear can really make a difference...i suppose one advantage may be that you won't have to downshift for hills or passing...fuel economy is still holding at 8.0L/100 kms (it dropped a couple of points on the short highway ride this morning)...pretty decent for a new car.
