I used to watch back when the cars bore some resemblance to the cars in the showrooms, and the drivers were actually allowed to behave like humans and not cookie cutter corporate shills. Haven't paid attention since then.

It's so asinine now compared to the Richard Petty era where the "raced" cars from the manufactures were actual RWD platforms. Presently, they have identical machines racing each other, but insist calling them the Camry or the Toyota, the Fusion or the Ford, the Impala or the Chevy, etc.
Present day NASCAR makes a great metaphor for the USA: Fake, contrived, hollowed out.
