2010 Camaro SS Detail
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:44:57 pm »
I got the Camaro SS detailed today.  It was more of a new car prep as the vehicle was practically brand new.  It would of been nice to detail it outside to get a true view of the colour, but I really loved it nonetheless.  The owner left me the keys but I have a policy NOT to drive a customer's car.........especially while they are not there.  Anyways, I must say that I was impressed with the paint quality.  It had next to no orange peel and was above average in thickness on virtually every panel.

My process today was:

Wash/dry
Clay bar with Claymagic fine grade
One step polish with Flex 3401, white pad, and Menzerna 0106FF
Seal with with Menzerna FMJ
Tires dressed with Poorboys Bold N Bright
Wheels sealed with Poorboys Wheel Sealant
Interior protected with Aerospace 303 and Leatherique on the seating surfaces

Time spent, 7.25 hours.

Tomorrow I will QD it with Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer and then apply Dodo Juice Orange Crush.

Pics so far...

I will also be heading back to the same place tomorrow to detail his 1970 SS Chevelle 454

2005 Honda S2000
2011 Ford Edge Ltd

Thanks.  While you know I am not particularly fond of the interior, I find it to be an extremely sharp looking car from the outside.  It's very aggressive looking and completely see why people want them.  The inferno orange looks damn good as well.

Cool.
Is that your shop? What does this kind of a detail cost where you spend 8 hrs or so of time? Or is it more?
How many details like this would you do per year? Over the Winter months do you continue this type of work or have you branched into something else?

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

I wish this was my shop, however unfortunately it's not.  It's actually one of the many garages on the customer's property.  This was a pretty straight forward and easy detail and is was mainly a new car prep.  Having said that, since I will have approximately 9 hours into it by the time it's done, I have to charge accordingly.  The charge for this particular one was $300.

As for how many details like this I do a year, it's typically about 75 or so.  I then have other full details that take much longer and consequently charge more.  The serious paint correction jobs that take many hours are actually my favorite detail jobs as I find them the most rewarding.  And while I do detailing all winter long, it's not as busy as spring, summer, and fall.

While I really enjoyed detailing the Camaro today, I am most looking forward to detailing the same owner's SS Chevelle tomorrow.   :)

Hey, I do mobile detailing.........and according to mapquest I am only about 978 miles from you with an estimated 16 hours and 49 minutes driving time.  Just let me know when you want me to leave!   ;D

The wheel wells weren't detailed!  ;)

Someone mentioned something about the interior of those cars on another thread. I now see what they mean.

Yeah, and that color is about the best version they offer. About 90% are all black and just horrid.

Why on earth would you want to detail the wheel wells?

You and me both!   :)  He has $90k invested in it over the last few years with a complete frame off restoration.  Beautiful car!

I go back again tomorrow to finish off the detail job on the Chevelle.

I don't understand spending that much on a Chevelle. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Those pics show a really nice Chevelle but for $90K he should have paid someone to take out the aftermarket stuff from the interior.

How do you polish the matte black bodywork?

Why on earth would you want to detail the wheel wells?

Why on earth would you detail the paint? A simple coat of wax to protect it should do...but then, one would have to keep a car long enough to worry about protecting the paint....like ten-plus years.

Nope! So that the owner can enjoy working on his car without getting dirty. For those who have the dealer do everything, it isn't of a concern.

I don't understand spending that much on a Chevelle. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

The customer is very wealthy so I guess he has the means and the desire to spend that much.  He certainly doesn't have any shortage of toys, that's for sure. He's got a $500k 45ft coach parked beside the Chevelle as well, what a rig!!  He wants me to detail that as well sometime this spring.......that will be a huge job!!  :o
