SOURCE -> AutoblogSo, despite the introduction of 300+HP V6, 400+HP V8 GT and 550HP GT500 models, the Camaro is still selling 23% stronger then the Mustang through March.
Camaro to date in 2011 has sold 19 972 units compared to the Mustangs 15 419 and the Challengers 9742. We all know the Camaro won the sales race last year, but many (me included) thought the new Mustang engines would give it back the edge. 5500 more units sold is a pretty big margin. Autoblog doesn't think it can be overcome. Although small volume, the upcoming ZL1 and Z28 will only add to the Camaro's appeal I would think.
I have always been a Camaro guy and owned one. But right now I would take the Mustang in a heartbeat over the Camaro. I wonder why it is selling so well? Don't say 'Dumb Americans who are brand loyal to the Camaro'. There are just as many if not more who are loyal to the Mustang. In fact, in the past when the Camaro was the faster (and arguably better) Pony car, it was routinely outsold by the Mustang.
Build a slower Pony car....it will sell
