So I got my new rims
« on: April 19, 2011, 01:27:00 am »
Ordered them from discount tire direct and I picked them up in Ogdensburg a few weeks ago.
I had to pay duty on the tires and GST on both.
When it was all said and done $1100 for 17" rims and tires.

They are a bit dirty due to both the recent rain and my street is terribly dirty.

Cheers Z

Looking good man.  I like the black rim look on the WRX.  Now you need a 2009 WRX Spoiler!

I though long and hard about getting 18" but it would have required me to find a different route to work and I didn't like the sound of being fearful of back roads, considering my in laws live on one. How lame is a WRX that can only drive on smooth roads.  :D

Don't look back!

There are a few GTI owners on here (me included) that went to 17s. Tests on the GTI show that 17s outperform 18s in just about every measure. Plus with the added $ you save it can go into the engine mod dept to make things even faster.

I though of it but redded out tails on a red car would be too much red.
I have some lamin-x gun smoked tail light covers siting in my garage.

I think I'll put them on sometime this week.

I want one but I don't see myself paying the $500 to get one and paint it. while I still want to go stage II and maybe some whiteline sways.

Ya I'm ok with the 17s, 18s look good but they come with a long list of warnings and/or limitations.

Pansies!! ;D

If not wanting to drive like a pansy makes me a pansy then so be it.
But over the years I have cracked both steel and alloy rims so I'm being a bit more cautious.

You're kidding, right?

18's aren't a big deal at all and I regularly drive our 18" shod cars on backroads and dirt roads.  Still PLENTY of side wall with 18s...

I have yet to wreck a rim yet....and I drive plenty in Detroit.  Without a doubt the worst kept roads I've ever driven on.

Shesh...how do the STI manage with their 18s??

No like I said
"over the years I have cracked both steel and alloy rims so I'm being a bit more cautious"
and this was on 17s and 16s.
well 18' isn't the issue if your car has a large tire but a 35 - 40 profile is starting to get small and considering I was going for a wider tire 335-345 that would put me at a 35 profile.

^^~.25" sidewall difference from the WRX 17s to the STi's 18s.  Not a big difference IMO.

Quality of wheel has more to do with it than sidewall...

Flat black wheels look good though!!  I'm sure you'll enjoy them.  Now post up pics of hoonage!!
