Yep, I want a diesel... power and fuel economy.

Why not get the best of both worlds.

There is no point buying an underpowered CUV when you can get one with huge torque and great fuel economy... I just hate being penalized because of my nationality... At least VW offers diesels... I'd buy a Tiguan if it was available in a diesel.

Yes, VW does offer diesel - the only one to offer diesels under $35K if I'm not mistaken... but that means we are forced to buy that overrated piece of German crap.... VW = Achtung

^^^ Still no word on when for Canada.  :(
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

No, and I'm watching for that too. Very much looking forward to it.

Mazda Canada did release gas pricing today though, and it's about where I expected it to be...

Agreed, price is right. Someone commented on Mazda Canada's Facebook status with "too expensive, competition starts at $19,999."

From the reviews I have read, there isn't any other crossover under $30k that is as "sporty" as this one.  That person is asking for too much.

It really is too bad Mazda hasn't but a 'little' effort into releasing the sky-d in the Canadian market.

The cx-5 with the sky-g is just gonna be a grocery getter...

I'm likely going to buy a BMW x3 in the next few months and Mazda may have got my money if they didn't screw around (holding back) on the diesel power.

Anyway, I hope Mazda doesn't end up on the automotive dung heap with saturn, pontiac, izuzu, AMC and the likes.

I was seriously interested in the CX-5 but offering the manual in only the base model kills it for me. Ultimately, I'd take an AWD GT manual especially if it could be had for $30k.

A Mazda salesman here in Halifax told me this week that the cars have been just loaded on a trian in Vancouver and should be in Halifax in 4 to 5 weeks.

Too bad they only loaded sky-g models (soccer moms will be happy).  Where the heck are the diesels?

I checked one out at the Toronto Auto show last weekend.

Nice enough but I got the feeling there were some 'cost savings' that were visible without too much searching.

The car has an odd proportion similar to the bmw X3 where there seems to be a little too much 'front end' but this may benefit front/rear weight distribution.

A review of a production model:
http://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/mazda/2013-mazda-cx5-review-video-1885.html

Three trims in Canada: GX, GS, and GT.  Only the GX is available with the manual and unfortunetly there are some options you can't get on it.

Bi-Xenon headlights (GT only)
19" Alloy wheels (GT only)
Rearview parking camera (GS and GT)
premium audio system (GT only)
Navigation system (GT only)
Heated front seats (GS and GT)
Leather-wrapped steering wheel (GT only)
Blind Spot Monitoring system (GS and GT)

Nothing I couldn't live without but it would be nice to have them as stand alone options.

Edit: Despite what the spec list on the website says when you build and price one there is a Built-in Nav System available for $705.

If you go by the quote below it looks like Mazda is not too hot on diesels  :(

Quote
While the CX-5 was designed to accept the Skyactiv diesel engine, Koreeda is not sold on the idea, saying there is far more potential to improve the gasoline engine.

“Our engineers tell us that diesel engines are at 90 per cent of their maximum potential,” Koreeda said, “while gasoline engines are at 60 per cent of their maximum potential.”

That, Koreeda added, may be a hint to where Mazda goes next, working to continue improving the gasoline engine further rather than converting to diesel.

Just picked one up for a CUV comparo.   42 km at mostly highway speed (100-120) returned an indicated 7.6 L/100 km

That's not bad.  What are you comparing it to?

~ 11.5 L/100 km on the Grand Vitara last week
~ 9.5 L/100 km on the Forester Last Week

We have a CR-V, RAV4, Tucson and Rogue being picked up this week so we should get a better idea where it stands
