What to be aware of when selling a vehicle
« on: April 17, 2011, 07:22:44 pm »
What are a couple of things to be aware of when selling a vehicle (motorcycle, car etc)?

I'm selling my old bike, the 250. Going through the process by ear, and I hate doing things by ear - especially when it involves my money.

Thanks.

MTO website should have the info required.

Personally, I make sure I get a signed receipt (stating as is where is condition), cash is king, I never hand over keys or registration till it is paid for, ideally go to MTO to make in person transfer of ownership, else, several days later go to local MTO office to ensure transfer of ownerhsip has taken place, then remove from insurance policy.

The one thing I never do is just sign over the ownership and give it to the buyer hoping they will transfer ownership into their name.

I always go to a licencing office and transfer ownership on the spot. The vehicle is out of your name and if the buyer decides to put plates on it that do not belong to the vehicle and also drives without insurance...you are out of the picture and cannot be held responsible.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.
