Audi's version of the Tiguan or a jacked up A3?
Not sure if its coming to Canada/US but I would think it would, since the BMW X1 is already here.

I prefer the exterior more than the X1.

I like this vehicle a lot, but why no quattro with TDI?

There is, no?

Drivetrain
"Both TFSI engines and the stronger of the TDI units will be supplied with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Its key element is a hydraulic multi-plate clutch, which redistributes power at lightning speed from the front axle to the rear axle as needed."

That's not real quattro :P But not unexpected given that its the Golf platform.

Is there really that much daylight in size/price between this and a Q5?

Ah, the real quattro.

That is like asking if there is really that much daylight in size/price between the X1 and X3?
I think there is.

Looks like an oversized Golf to me...which is not a bad thing.    I bet that the 170 bhp TDI will use "exhaust fluid" and the 140 bhp one won't.
I  wonder if the Haldex style quattro will be detectable in normal driving ( I had a torsen type quatrro.
Sadly I suspect the desirable 170 bhp TDI quattro will either be grossly overpriced here or will be decontented to keep it  in a particular price range and then will be missing some nice stuff.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I love the ad copy!  Look at our new SUV everyone, it's lower, lighter, and is about the same size as a car.  It drives like a car, and has "sporty coupe (car) styling."  The cargo area is 460L, or about the same size as most hatchback cars.

Yup, they increased the ground clearance slightly (and by the pics, I do mean slightly), raised the roof a bit (and only a bit) and badged it an SUV.  Actually, it's brilliant.  We can convince people to buy/drive hatchbacks and wagons just by calling them an SUV.  Of course, Subaru has been doing this for some time, but they have proven that it works, so kudos to Audi for jumping all over it.
No place I'd rather be...

There target market is probably in their 50's with bad back and knees, and having something that seat a little higher is great

Will it be hard to explain that the Q3 cost more than a Q5?

I really like the looks of this, will have to start saving my pennies.

I like it as well. Not worth 50K though. Okay, maybe if it comes with that sweet turbo 5. ;)
