New Lexus (GS) Design Direction. Yea or Nay?
« on: April 12, 2011, 06:57:47 pm »
Picture for the Lexus LF-Gh hybrid concept were leaked prior to the NY Autoshow.  This is supposed to be the design direction for future Lexus', particularly the upcoming re-worked GS series.  I like the more aggressive looks and think something similar on the IS series would look really good.  Not sure if I'd want something so aggressive on an LS series though.  Rear looks a bit too 5 Series-esque for me though.  Full gallery here: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/12/lexus-unveils-lf-gh-ahead-of-new-york-debut/

At first glance, it's a nay for me.  Are they trying to look like a GT-R from the front?   Not bad by any means but it doesn't make me want one.

.....

Looks OK (which is a comment that I'm sure drives the designers nuts after putting in who knows how many hours into it).

Agreed...VERY 5 series influenced in the back.

I might suggest that Lexus be careful and stay on the conservative side.  I don't see Lexus key differentiator as styling, and their customers IMO, don't expect it.  The last thing they need is to pull an Acura.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.

It's just a concept. Remember how cool the Impreza concept was, only to have our hopes and dreams crushed by the production car.  :rofl2:

I like the shape from every angle, it's a lot better than the current line and I hope it reaches production with only the grille changed to something less aggressive and a bit more coherent for a luxury sedan.

Love the front end! Nice to see Lexus getting aggressive. A little soft on the sides, but a nice looking car!

Prefer the current one....this looks jumbled and disjointed and too aggressive for being a GS.

You're right on the rear end, very very 5 Series like.

The grill needs to be adjusted, but other then that I like it.

This is the real reason for my trip to NYC I hope it isn't exactly like this... I don't understand the point if they leak photos ahead of time.

We need a thread relocation here - that aint no truck.

I think it looks terrific, even if the front grille is a tad overdone.  It defiitely does look aggressive - and I like that.

it's quite good.  i like the LFA and the IS250/350.   they should have followed this design direction with their new hatch.

Some of the style elements look like the LF-Ch that became the Lexus CT200h that we are discussing in the other thread. I think the production version will be much toned down but retaining something from the concept just like the LF-Ch relationship. It may actually be that the concept is the ugly one and the production variant is the good looking one in the end.

This is supposedly the 2013 Lexus GS 350 that will officially be revealed in a few days. Still slightly disguised, and shot through a fish-eye which distorts it,but you get the overall look and shape.  Where are the concept car's lines?

Must be the theme of that class of cars.  BMW went through a definite regression of styling after the e39 5-series and now it's Lexus's turn.  The current GS is a handsome car... this new one?  Bleh.

Totally blahhhh

Rear end could be a Kia or Chev.

Much prefer the current one.
