Pontiac G8 GT is gone and a new vehicle on the way.
« on: April 11, 2011, 03:33:25 pm »
My G8 has a new owner and I am on my mountain bike. I needed a vehicle more in line with my work/play requirements.

The new one hint: It is not a truck.

+1.  If its not a truck, it must be a Ridgeline  ;D.

What are the requirements?

-light duty "off roading" to get to some fishing and dirt/mountain biking spots.
-able to handle a couple of dirt bikes
-able to go to navigate some oilfield leases (ie dirt roads and paths through fields
-commuter to work
-able to accomodate children in the back seat
-it has to fit in my garage because I don't scrape windows or like a sun baked vehice in the summer.
-decent family roadtrip vehicle (7+ hoours)

I don't see anything other than a Ridgeline that fits all those.

What happened to the sunroof on the G8 in the end?

Yeah it's a Ridgeline.  The hint was too obvious.  I replaced the sunroof on the G8 on my dime ($500). Gm just shrugged their shoulders.

I took a Ridgeline for a demo this morning to confirm my thoughts from last fall (almost bought a Ridgeline when I picked the G8). Other than the slightly weird ergonomics due to the non-telescoping steering wheel I love it. The ride/handling of a Ridgeline is incredible. The ride is silky smooth over broken  nasty pavement with nary a shudder. What is amazing is how fast you can toss the big machine into a corner, amazing for a errrr. truck thing.. ;D  Honda really nailed the handling. Why they don't sell in big numbers is beyond me. I guess people don't like ugly vehicles. ;D

Damn.  I was gonna vote Subaru Baja....  I guess I wasn't that far off.

Congrats on the new truck.  Sounds like you won't be missing the handling of the G8 as much as you'd think.

Best of luck with the Ridgeline. Doubt it will be quite as much fun as the G8 tho.

The dirtbike in the back of the Ridgeline will more than make up for it. ;)

Heh, you think they would have restyled it by now. That extra six grand for Canadians can't have helped either, especially in a market where F150's and Sierra's routinely are blown out the door with ten thousand off.

Congrats! By all accounts owners love these.

Doubt the sunroof on the Ridgeline (if equipped) will explode, either!!

Dirtbike in the back of the Ridgeline will make up for any fun lost from the G8.

Congrats! I guess after the mooning -roofing fiasco you didn't think highly of GM alternatives (avalanche or caddy)?

In 7 months I  put 8k kms on the G8. Sold it for about 1k less than I bought it for. Also threw in the winter wheels/tires (1500 new) Used $1200?

So about $2200 less over all. Just over $300/month. Not bad for a car like that.

The moonroof was just bad luck me thinks.
