2 of my Honda's did the same thing.  Friend's Honda's did it too.  It was always the heat shield around the cat.  It's cheap tin held together with just a few pinch welds on either side.

My Forester make a similar noise.  Yup, heat shield has loosened over time, no sense for me to fix on the old gal.  Also makes a "ding" noise on the 1-2 upshift from the same thing.

Next time I get my indie to do an alignment (seems to be an annual thing after the accident) I'll ask him to hit the heat shield with a hammer.
