Female buyers not considering many domestic vehicles
« on: April 05, 2011, 05:42:41 pm »
This week on ApplianceWeekly, we look at the top cars that US Women select:

While the top picks (Camry, Rolla, Civic, Accord) make sense given they are all sales leaders over-all, check out the bottom of the attached chart - the top ranked domestic vehicles rank way, way down on the priority list.  The Asian ethnic groups sure do have a love-fest going on with Asian vehicles...although I'm sure they evaluate all cars on their merits and have no bias of course.   :P

I see that.  Our school staff parking lots are filled with Civics, Corollas, and other similar makes.  My wife would not consider a "Big Three Brand" or German car.  Low operating costs and reliability are the main considerations for her, and her perception is that the Japanese-based brands are still superior in those regards.  Personally, I'd consider a Ford, but my wife would not.
No place I'd rather be...

Lady Osis thumbs through CR when it's time to purchase. She narrows things down, then starts test driving. More often that not, we test cars separately until the field is narrowed.

She is the one who picked me up at work with an Outback to try out. We both liked it quite well, so that's what we got.

If there had been a Fusion wagon, we would have gone that way.

Predictable, statistically reliable, "safe" choices. Beige. Comfy. Easy to drive. Sounds pretty sensible actually. :)

OTOH my fiance drives a Z4 (mutual agreement on purchase) and we are both leaning towards an EX or G37 to replace the TSX one day. I chose well. ;D

I do not think those results would be valid in, say, Vancouver, which has a large Asian population and is not totally Japanese-auto oriented. German cars do well in Vancouver for this demographic. But, whatever, surveys can be made to say anything.  ::)
