Where do you keep your lug locking tool
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:43:13 pm »
So I'm going to be getting some new black lug nuts and was wondering:
A. any suggestions?
and B. where do you keep your nut locking tool.
Keeping it in the car seems both smart and stupid at the same time.

I was thinking maybe these:

In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

In the trunk, under the carpet where it's supposed to be as per the manual.

I don't want to be on the site of the road without it. Not fun.

That makes sense but wouldn't that be the first place someone looks.

Oh yes definitely. Although I've been asked where the nut lock is at CT.

Thing is, unless you're sporting some $5000 BBS rims I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I tossed mine in the trunk under the spare wheel.   You would have to take out the spare wheel to get to it.   If I'm taking out the spare wheel, I'm probably having to replace a flat that the self-inflate/seal can stuff can't fix.

Glove box.  If someone breaks in my car to get it, I suspect they are looking to steal not just the wheels, but the car itself.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

Good point but with the chip keys can thieves still steal cars? I guess with flat beads and tow trucks.

Spline drive nuts are the only option IMO.  Every nut is basically a lock nut.  Would be tough to steal without the master...

I keep mine in my locked glove box.

The best place to keep your LUG nut key is in the garbage.  I have had three of these stupid things strip.  When I got the nut off I replace them with a nut.  Talk to mecanics they hate these things.  You all do realize that any self respecting wheel thief has the lug nut remover which will remove these?  You can buy them a Pricess Auto.

Why the hell would lock the glove box? The punk has already broken into your car. Do you think a locked glovebox is going to stop him? Hell that is just the reason he needs to @#$% up the dash to open the box.

Any respectable thief will destroy the glove box anyway to steal the airbag.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
