Goodbye Acadia
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:01:05 am »
It really is hard to believe that four years has elapsed, but it has and today I return what has been a very good vehicle. Yes there were a few things needed to be fix here and there and a recall notice or two, but the only out of pocket expense has been the brakes. Not bad with slightly over 70 thousand on the dial.

I really like the Acadia. I like the size, the utility and even the gas mileage. What I am going to miss the most though is OnStar. Buying the minutes costs more than what you pay for cell phone usage, but you can't beat the convenience. And that plus the peace of mind that comes from having it there, makes it very worthwhile.

Yes it has aged and the suspension is getting a little loose and the tires are almost finished, however it has stood up well and come to think of it I never did have to replace the windshield. Couple of chips that were filled but never had to replace it. That's a first.

Didn't always need the third row seating and so it spent most of the time folded flat so I could carry the many other things that needed it. Great to have it though and convenient to get at and use. GM did a good job developing that system. Folding second row was handy too with a few trips to the dump with materials from our renovation.

Regrets? Just two things come to mind - wish GM had made some cosmetic changes to make it look a little 'newer' and that they would have also got back into leasing across the line. Would have gone back if they had.

He ordered an Explorer, I believe.

Inco, I'm curious, how exactly did you use OnStar? My perception of it is it's useful when you need directions in a bind, or were in an accident. What else?

I never looked at the Acadia in depth last fall when in the market for an SUV/CUV as it was too big for my needs.  Having said that, it's one of the best looking ones on the road today.  Glad it treated you pretty well and good luck with the Explorer.

The accident part is a big draw and rightly so. If the air bags deploy OnStar tries calling the vehicle to assertain if everyone is ok and then decide what to do. If no response they automatically call Emergency Services and since it is a GPS system they know where to find you.

However the car had it's own cell number too and so you can use it to call out or in and since the law came in about using your cell phone in the car - the hands free phone got a lot more use. Only three people had the cell phone number to limit incoming calls. It is great and loved that ability.

Haven't you heard, leasing is back!  ;D

The new Explorer looks to be a mighty fine piece, so I'm interested in your impressions. Really like the look, lights, and LR4-style stance and proportions of the exterior, while the interior is night and day compared to Fords of a few years ago. My, how the Explorer has changed.

How long is your wait? Put any thought toward the EcoBoost or stuck with the V6?

Careful getting into the back seats. They seem to be inset closer to the centre of the vehicle and every time you get in/out you end up with the bottom cushion up yer, well, bottom.

Interesting. How much did it cost to have a cell number for the car? And, why not just link up your cell phone via blutooth instead?

Shnak - Cell number came with the car. Back in 07 they did not have blue tooth so there wasn't much choice.

Pick up the new one today. Signed up for MYSync last week and they ask you if you want to give your car a name and I went for it. Think Adams Family and you might guess it. :rofl2:

SirA - eco engine not an option yet.

So, for 4 years, you could make and receive as many calls as you wanted from the Acadia without paying a dime? No wonder you liked OnStar!! Wonder how much that service costs normally.

Hold on there Mr. Shnak - in the world of GM nothing is free. When you get car they give you minutes - something like 200 IIRC and as you go along you buy more - 100 minutes was something like $50 and don't forget the monthly system access fee - mine was roughly $30 - less actually, per month.

Still the knowledge that help was always there was very reassuring and made it worth it for me.

I walked past a new Explorer today.   Ford did a fantastic job with this one.  There was a previous Gen near it and it is a night and day difference.

I'm curious to hear your driving impressions and whether or not the MFT makes you want to hit it with a sledgehammer.

I drove one for like 20 min a few weeks ago.  It feels very much like the Edge, very car like.  Much less bounce / trucky than before.

Patience guys - Geez, I've only had it like 26 hours. The good news is no accidents though.

I am starting to formulate some opinions and getting used to it and as mentioned so far, touch wood, nothing bad has happened.

And those  :ttiwwp:  will follow.
