The Echo is gone....
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:01:26 pm »
My trusty 2000 Toyota Echo winter beater.  265,000kms of problem free ownership.  No question the powertrain in this car (and the Yaris) is a bullet-proof as they come.  After 265,000kms, the stock OEM clutch was starting to go away.  Didn't think it was worth the effort to replace so I sold the car as-is.  The buyer is going to use it for parts.

Next?  Likely some AWD winter beater.  Forester is at the top of the list, though we may end up with a 2001+ RAV4.
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Always sad to see a trusty old ride go. :(

Still considering a SX4 for a winter beater or have you ruled it out?

Be careful of uncomfortable seats in that era of RAV4. My 2004 RAV had terrible seats.  :P

Yea, it's still on the list.  Just leaning a little towards a CUV though.  Hard to find the SX4 AWD with a stick though.

You got your money's worth out of that Echo - and then some.

Damn shame when a good, dependable beater car finally gets to the end of it's life. Like losing an old friend..

How'd you get rid of the echo?  A bit of anechoic coating?

Wow. I have no clue what you are talking about. For better or worse, I have had a relationship with every car I have owned.

Trying to be clever like Saf, maybe?

Anthropomorphizing = assigning human-like qualities to an object, animal, etc.
anechoic coating = prevents echoes

That part I got.

It's the "It's a car man. Lighten up!" part that I don't get!

I have boxes of tissues if you need some.   :'(

RAV4 isn't bad.   My neighbor has one for ages.   Seems to be problem free and he doesn't "baby" it.

I prefer the AWD system in the Forester. I prefer the looks and quality of the Rav4.  No local Subaru dealer either, so sourcing parts would have to become a strictly USA affair.

We'll see....still shopping.

It doesn't matter what the make or car is... I was sad (not teary eyed!) to see my parents 1997 Intrepid go. That was the car I learned on. It has memories and my first road trips. As far as a car went it was a decent mid to full sized sedan with reasonable power and sometimes funky electronics.

I'll be sad to see my Corolla go too... whenever that is. My first car... even more memories on this thing and it's only a few years old. I'm definitely anthropomorphizing my cars. They have personalities!

The Echo sounds like it was a great vehicle! Not very stylish but it sounds like it transcended that in other ways.
