Any Canadian online tire shops?
« on: March 19, 2011, 04:22:06 pm »
I've been having a hard time looking for cheap tires locally.  I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for buying tires online?  I won't be buying from south of the border since i gotta pay duties, customs and all that.. I got burned before and do not want to go through that again.

Buying fro JC Whitney I have yet to pay duty, tax or brokerage. Tires are currently 20% off with a coupon code too.
I have bought from tiretrends twice as their price wasn't too bad.

Tires are sale priced in April and October.

1010Tires (CA), Costco (CA), JC Whitney (US), TireRack (US) and TireTrends (CA) have superior brand name tire pricing. U.S. and Mexico made tires do not attract steep Canadian import duties. Watch for online coupon codes. Be alert for stealth charges, excessive shipping costs and courier brokerage fee ripoffs.

1010Tires does not collect the McGuinty tire ecotax. You can do it to da man!

Just because you got burned once by another supplier don't shy away from Tire rack. All taxes duties etc are calculated and shown when you order. I and many others have saved 100s from them in certain instances.

Yes 101 tires and Tire trends are the 2 main Canada ones..but it costs nothing to enter the same oder into Tire rack and see if you would save or not. Somtimes the duty and shipping eat all the savings. Sometimes they have sales or clearouts that make it a no brainer to buy from the US

That is who I bought my last set of tires from, and even though they were Yokohamas, there was no duty because they were made in the US.

I bought cheap $59 tires and after having them installed and balanced here, still managed to save $175...not much, but then look at the order total.

I paid big shipping on my last tire and wheel order since the wheels were clearout and only came from Las Vegas. I think it was over $300.

I still saved over $500. Wheel and tire packages can really save since mount and roadforce balance is included. Just have to pop them onto the car.

1010 Tires is reasonable but just looked for some of the winters I want and there are still no discounts unless you have a coupon code.

A friend of mine got a killer deal pre-season at JC Whitney on a set of General Altimax Arctic tires for his car, but I'd rather buy local. He ended up waiting for over a month due to shipping/inventory delays - I had mine on the next day and saved 25% at Canadian Tire's pre-season sale on winters.

Just found a site where you can compare prices on just about anything Canadian. www.shopbot.ca, might be useful to narrow down some online or brick and mortar tire shops.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com

They are not Canadian however they have great prices and ship FREE to Canada.  You pay a $40 duty fee per tire and that's it.  I saved quite a fair chunk of money recently ordering tires from them for my S2000 in comparison with Tirerack.  Absolutely no place I could find local or within Canada that cheap.

You pay a $40 duty fee per tire and that's it.

If you ordered tires made in North America I believe there shouldn't be any duty.
